Productive and efficient
Purchased this recently from amazon and so far so good. Anyone who types a alot of emails, text etc.. and by that I dont mean a few words then the qwerty keypad will be a joy to use. Anyone who gets frustrated typing on touch screen, get this. Screen is bright and sharp and the touch interface is smooth and works relatively well. Web browsing is adequate with the touch screen an added bonus but by no means brilliant due to the small screen and feels slower when compared to your android or iphones. The phone itself is very slim, compact, has a premium feel and battery lasts about a day or so hence will need charging every night. The user interface is not as intuitive as other interfaces but if you put abit of work learning and setting it up correctly then it will be very beneficial. If you are looking for a phone primarily for multimedia use such as web browsing, music and apps then this is not the phone for you. On the other hand if you need a productive(emailing, texting, a phone that actually can make and recieve calls and im not being sarcastic), reliable and no nonsense phone, then I recommend this. Having had blackberrys and iphones in the past as well as the samsung galaxy s2 Ive reverted back to the blackberry as it is ideally suited to my needs which is hectic and demanding so have no time to play on a phone with games or watch videos. Entertainment vs productivity. ******Must mention the great service by amazon when I had an issue with my order. I contacted them and they responded within an hour or so and dealt with it promptly and efficiently. Will definitely buy from amazon again and would recommend anyone buying to choose amazon because of their excellent customer service.********

Best of both worlds
It is so good to back on a BlackBerry after two years on an iPhone. This is the best of both worlds: fast processor, reliable email, good signal, reasonable battery life, touchscreen and qwerty. Despite so much bad press, RIM has done a great job with this device and it is light years ahead of my old Curve 8300, especially things like reading PDFs and editing Word docs. It just, as they say, works. I have teamed it up with a PlayBook they work very nicely together. But quality control isn't great. My first one was DOA, and sat on my desk connected to the charger doing nothing but displaying the "invalid battery" icon, even though the battery that I inserted was of course the one that came in the box. Apparently this is a known issue. This one also has the "issue" that some people are complaining about: the squeaky trackpad! I hadn't really noticed it until I read it on a forum and thought "yeh, I suppose mine squeaks too". I solved it with a little Vaseline around the trackpad. Don't return yours without trying this first as it isn't really a fault.

Terrible seller attitude, horrible item.
I found the smartphone defective from the very beginning as follows:- 1. The clock changed its time once, on its own. 2. The alarm setting changed on its own, once. 3. It cannot connect to the WiFi. 4. It stops ringing (connection remaining intact) when I try to fetch it out of my pocket, every time (I have taken extreme care each time not to touch any button on the phone), especially if my finger comes in contact with the screen. This has never happened with any of my phones in the past. 5. I find the phone switched on in the morning even when I switched it off the night before. 6. Unwanted screen appears at times without my command. 7. The phone becomes very hot on its own at times, even when locked, draining charges. 8. It may show another number on the screen than the one I command for. 9. Blackberry app world does not work. 10. Maps do not work. I wrote to the seller. The seller's attitude is appaling. Initially, they would not reply to my complaint. Then, after I spoke to Amazon, they sent me an email, summarily dismissing what I wrote and refusing to replace the item. Then I advised them that I would take legal action and asked for a reply within seven days of my letter being sent to them. They did not reply. It made me wonder, are they comfortable under the protective umbrella of Amazon? I spoke to Amazon again and this time I was reassured by a nice gentleman at Amazon who advised me that action will be taken against the seller and I should hear very soon. PREFACE: I honestly forgot which seller this came from (sorry) but I do know it came FLAWLESS for about USD$190. It was NIB with AT&T branding which was absolutely PERFECT for me (you can guess why). I have no idea if it was locked or not though, because I wanted it for AT&T anyways. HARDWARE: The keys are brilliantly soft, yet very easy to type on (with my fists of meat and fingers of butter) The screen is a decent resolution too, it's sharp yet very bright in daylight. The speaker is loud and crisp in calls, but a little less quality for a/v than the Curve (who cares). The touch screen is on-par with standard devices today, and is always a neat party trick for non-blackberry people. It's also a great feeling to have the same zooming, panning, map control and etc as an Android device. Battery life is a bit crap, it lasts all day on normal use but only just. The processor power may to blame for that. The camera is so-so, I wouldn't skin a website with photos from it like I did with my Samsung Galaxy S2. Call Quality is decent, nothing to write home about either. SOFTWARE: BB7 (Blackberry OS 7) is very intuitive and has some great features, but it's a bit unstable... and there's less apps for it than BB10. (Next phone is definitely a Q10 unless they release something better.) It's a nice-looking OS but misses a couple important marks in 2014 like Voice control, Text-to-speech, and an instant web search capability. It's definitely a great communicator though... as BlackBerry has always been, and Blackberry hasn't fallen short on that at all. OVERALL: Great overall for Blackberry 7 Devices, Not so up-to-speed on the whole smartphone world. If you have the extra cash, splurge on the Q10. You'll be rewarded with more apps, better interface, more features, and the same smooth, soft, yet rigid keyboard for typing out your important communications.
