Bakkhai

The Bacchae is a brief and puzzling play. It's built around Bacchus/Dionysius who, as the god of getting blackout drunk and wrecking things, is always assumed to be deeper and more thoughtful than he appears to be, here. It's the people who are confused and conflicted, and end badly. This is the first translation of this play that I've read in fifty years, since there was a late-sixties wave of performances. I don't remember it as having been this good.

it has a nice textured matte cover and the art looks really good. it has a slight bend in the pages but not too bad. the formatting of the play is really cool and the words are nice and clear. overall good quality :)

I’ve read the bakkhai before but this is by far the most compact and readable translation. I would also recommend a more traditional or annotated version as that can really enhance the experience (understanding the way this play was playing on conventions of the time and the historical context of its performance), but it’s still phenomenal.
