Symbols, Signs and Signets (Dover Pictorial Archive)

Interesting reading and a book to have somewhere to read over and over and when the opportunity arrives. well it is not a book tit is a systematic list of all you need to know and there is a lot of material to be read. great job done. The only thing is that for Kindle the formating is rather weak or unsuitable the search and looking for symbols is rather hard. Better buy hard copy.

This book was exactly what I was looking for. However if a person is also interested in information, such as meaning/history of symbols, signs, and signets along with each illustration, this isn't that kind of reference book. If that's the case I would recommend purchasing a different book on the subject. This one is a book of identification with very brief key page for each section.

I wasn't too fond of the format and layout of this book. There are pages and pages of pictures of symbols with little information, and then a blurb giving an overview of the section in question. On the various reference pages, the author has given you the name of the symbol and the culture/country of origin. But he does not provide any additional explanatory information. And I was hoping for greater detail and explanation. So, for what it is, it's not bad. But if you're looking for actual information about these symbols and what they mean and represent, look elsewhere.

Love this book. Nice quick reference. Good history lessons. Nice crisp images. Nice source for art.

there can be found here old illustrations of Egyptian symbolism, astrological, planetary, magical, alchemic, religious, figures of Gods and angels, sigils of demons, representations of monsters, graphic and archaic ink drawings, and many more.

Informative but the format is annoying to use flipping from page to page to find the symbols meaning. The meaning is do not go into any depth. If you want the true meanings of these symbols this isn't the book for you.

Book was in good shape but had that old book smell which can be expected with a book of this age.

Pretty exhaustive.

Too many signs and symbols simply state "Roman" or "greek" etc- zero description of what the sign actually signifies- for my purposes, utterly useless. If one at least had a name in many instances , one could google the rest, but far too many simply state "greek"/"Roman","Byzantian" etc.- no indication of any meaning. Money wasted

Great book, lots of themes and ideas to explore further in my case.

very good. you could probibly find everything in it online pretty easy and better waulity illustrations but its good for ideas i suppose.maybe doesnt go into as much details behind the symbols as i would have liked but still pretty cool

Good book for visual artist or if you need inspiration. It is a collection from all corners of the world but it doesn’t have the comprehensive coverage of a focused reference book. As long as you go in with that expectation you will be satisfied.
