A simple, good product made of food-safe materials. Companion product recs included in this review.
1. This is as simple a product as you can expect to find. So long as you read the "Product Description", you won't be disappointed.2. That being said, the STEEL IS SAFE for the dishwasher, NOT THE PLASTIC LID.3. The lid is "BPA-free, #4 LDPE plastic" ***4. "Food may be reheated in the metal containers (without the plastic lid) in a medium-heat oven or over a campstove." ***5. Made in Thailand.*** http://ecolunchboxes.com/ecolunchbox-oval/Here are a couple other products I would recommend to go with the Bento Box...(1) The MIRA Brands 3-Container Leak Proof Stainless Steel containers (to expand the variety of foods you can bring). They boast the same eco-conscious materials.(2) The BUILT Neoprene Lunch Tote (which I totally love so far - light, folding bottom, a variety of colors/designs). Everything fits easily in this tote.Mira Containers : http://www.amazon.com/MIRA-Brands-3-Container-Proof-Stainless/dp/B00F9GFMY4/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1406865545&sr=8-11&keywords=stainless+steel+lunch+boxTote : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004SPVZCK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1NOTE : I will update my product review as necessary. For now, I am happy.

Stick with steel
Love the size and functionality of this for my toddler's lunches at daycare. Wet items in the little round cup, dry items in the larger compartment. I wasn't too thrilled, however, when the little plastic lid for the small cup started splitting after only 3 (gentle) uses and solely handwashing. I would give 5 stars if not for this. They should stick with stainless steel for everything -- skip the plastic.

Excellent stainless steel container!
I really like this lunch box set--while not completely leak-proof, the lid for the bigger piece clamps down securely and I can pack a medium-sized sandwich or salad for lunch, or store lefotvers in the fridge. It's a nice size, and I find I use it more often than the slightly smaller ones I have (other brands). The small round container is also handy for cherry tomatoes, salad dressing, anything small, and while there's usually no room in the big piece to fit it in, I just pack it separately. I think this product is superior to Lunchbots; it's better made, the lid fits better, it has the little round container as an extra, and it seems sturdier to me. I'm very pleased with my purchase, and I find I use this lunch box a lot. It's a bit pricey, but I think it's worth it.

Works well
Got this for my son's school lunches. It's very well made, but I do wonder how long the hinge fasteners on the sides will last. We're nearly three months into the school year and it's held up well so far.

I have no idea why this gets good reviews. It leaks horribly
I have no idea why this gets good reviews. It leaks horribly. Within a few minutes of setting out to work, I had a dripping exterior bag. Yuck. Contents I had packed were lettuce, carrots, and chick peas. No salad dressing, nothing liquidy, it was just dripping from the condensation. Unless you can ensure the lunchbox remains in an upright position, this is not for you.

well made but not useful
This item is cute and very well made, particularly the latch feature. However I do not find it useful, and would not recommend its purchase. It is not large enough for a regular whole sandwich unless you really pack it in there tightly (almost mashing the sandwich into submission). I also find it's not as good as plastic containers at keeping my food fresh. Noodles in a cold salad or the fillings of a sandwich become very mushy and soft within a few hours (refrigerated or not). I love to choose "green" solutions but not when their function is inferior to "traditional" solutions. The reusability factor is nice, but does not make the product functional. Additional info: I like the small cup for sides, but have not typically used it in conjunction with the larger container because it doesn't make a convenient "partner" to the larger container. I suspected this from the Amazon listing, but hoped I could use it sometimes to contain a snack of raw veggies and dip - however, its dimensions make it almost impossible to do that. You simply do not have room for your veggies after putting the smaller round container into the larger oval one.

Our favorite bento box
My child has used this lunchbox almost daily from Kindergarten to now going into third grade. I recently had to buy a replacement silicone lid for the small round container, but otherwise this box is still going strong. It is an ideal size for a younger child, easy to open and close, and easy to clean. We also have a Lunchbots uno, but we prefer this one because it is deeper, holds more food, and can fit a jumbo size silicone muffin cup to hold larger side dishes. (The lunch bots can only hold the tiny standard size muffin cups). As you can see from the photos, the box holds a good amount of food for a young child and fits easily into a skip hop lunch box along with a 10-oz or 12-oz thermos funtainer. We will probably need a bigger bento for the later elementary school years, but it has very worked well for a small child.

Excellent value and construction
I ordered one of these for my kids' lunches. It has been a hit. The container is the perfect size; as another reviewer states, the small cup can either be tucked into the large oval or left out.One of my favorite features is the small flip-up clamps that hold the lid on. I almost bought a stacking stainless steel set--the tiffin style--but when I tried opening and closing the latches, it was difficult for me, and would have been impossible for the kids to open their lunches!! The clamps on the oval system have just enough pressure to keep the lid in place, but are still simple for the kids to open and close.I am ordering a second oval system; I highly recommend it as a versatile all-purpose container system. Whether you want to make cute bento-box type lunches or just store leftovers, the size is perfect and the extra cup w/watertight lid is perfect for yogurt, juice, dips or sauces.
