How do you get the mat to lay flat once you have taken it out of the box?

Maybe in the heat of summer you could lay it outside and the heat would help it flatten out, but it's been several weeks now and my mat still curls under. I've had the chair on it the entire time, but still won't lay flat.

What material is it? polycarbonate or pvc?
