Inspector Morse: Series 1-12 [DVD] [UK Import]

A series worthy of a wider audience. Good acting, interesting characters, and interesting stories. The main character and some others in the show Inspector Lewis make references to Morse and having watched Inspector Morse, one may well understand why he was such an influence on Lewis and others, and why Morse's earlier life is the basis for the show Endeavor. This show started all that. Very watchable British police stories. Only downside is the relative lack of availability of copies. The set was Coded 2 (not playable on typicalt USA machines), but luckily non-code players are now easily obtainable. This show would make such an additional purchase fully justified. Not to be missed.

There is nothing better than the Inspector Morse episodes. The shows have the highest quality actors, John Thaw and Kevin Whately, the chemistry between the two men is superb, the characters are so interesting; Morse is everything you think a detective wouldn't be - a former Oxford student, a lover of great classical culture, most especially Mozart, a man who drives a Jaguar, and someone who solves crimes almost completely on intellect.Sargent Lewis the perfect balance. He is a "regular joe", down to earth, respective, but not afraid to share his own opinions.To me, the chemistry between this two is what makes the show so great. They argue with one another, but at the end of the day, they want the same thing - to catch those who murder others.

This series is OK. Unfortunately I received a defective dvd set so I could only watch 5 or 6 episodes. But Amazon and seller took care of everything. I think Inspector Morse is arrogant, loud and rude most of the times. He ridicules his partner Sgt Lewis all the time about everything. It's hard to watch Sgt Lewis put up with it but he does it very professionally. Morse, J Thaw, is a good actor but the character is written to be rude and arrogant. It's hard to watch at times since I have seen the modern day Masterpiece Theater Endeavor show which is Morse when he was young (played by Shaun Evans) first starting out as a detective. Endeavour is smart, insightful and doesn't act like Morse portrays when he is older. Endeavour is a little opinionated and thorough which sometimes makes people think he is too picky but that's what makes him a great detective. The older version of this detective is not so kind and puts people off so I didn't particularly care for this show as much. The actual story lines related to solving the murders were well written, just think the Morse character is too rude and always so down.

I watched this series many years ago, when it first showed on PBS and really loved it. I have been wanting to buy the series for years, but it was way too expensive, and the cheaper DVDs would not play on my DVD player. I finally broke down and bought an inexpensive player that covered all areas and bought the EU edition. It was worth it. The program is as great as I remembered and now I am buying other series EU editions and enjoying them.

Loved this series when we watched several years ago on A&E but need to have a region-free DVD player to watch. From U.K. so they are region 2 and won’t play on most US equipment. Just ordered a region-free player from Amazon so hopefully can watch in a few days.

A great series with Morse having all the right characteristics of theanguished Oxford detective and brilliantly acted by John Thaw who certainly fittedthe part.

Each episode was excellent. The colors were great.Some episodes have changes in color contrast, in particular, where the programs go from light to dark backgrounds. You do need a region-free player in order to watch this.

Even better than I remember from seeing it when first aired here in America. The quintessential British detective show with all that makes these programs so popular. Depth-filled and well rounded characters, good stories, well written scripts and superb acting.Well-mastered too. A Region 2 set that will only play on none region players.

Both great stories but "Who Killed Harry Field" one of the best! Grear visuals and wonderful acting.

I have always loved John Thaw as an actor, I first saw him in Redcap. With this series, he brings out the best in Colin Dexter.
