For particle board, the shelves actually look really nice. I liked the first shelf enough to warrant buying another, and for the price, it is certainly a good deal. The assembly is not complex at all in my opinion, though you do need to use your own screwdriver instead of the one included. On a scale of one to ten, I'd rank the assembly at a 3. For reference, I'd put most Ikea furniture at a 5. If you're unsure of the quality/appearance, don't be. Very good purchase, and I'm happy to have such a professional, visually appealing shelf.

Once put together, the shelves look nice and are a good value. However, the assembly process is a LOT more involved than I was expecting. You have to put the feet onto the frame, screw several pieces of hardware and a metal bar into each the shelves (this takes a total of 21 screws, which is too much for the little L-tool that's included to handle, so you really need to use a real screwdriver to get the job done), pop the shelves onto the frame, then bolt the shelves in place (6 bolts). It wasn't too big a deal for us to put together, but if you're expecting to just unfold the sides and flip down the shelves, you're out of luck. They look fine when assembled and work well for a casual or rustic look.

Update: the seller contacted me and sent a replacement. The new one is good and I haven’t had any issues with the breaking so far. I’m happy with it now that I have one that didn’t break!It broke before I even completed assembling it. Unfortunately I don’t have a box to return it otherwise I would. Super disappointed.

I really love these shelves. They are well built and easy to assemble. I’m not sure why others are complaining about the little screw driver. Use a regular screw driver or do like I did and use a power screw driver or drill. Assembly was a breeze and I ordered 3 of these. I’ll be using these shelves for craft shows and I’m confident these shelves will hold up to high use. I wouldn’t hesitate to order more of these.

I just forgot how long ago I've bought this. It's easy to put together, super sturdy (i carry it up and down the stairs at least once every 2 months) and can keep all of my stuff organized and pretty on top of it. Highly recommend this.

There is nothing wrong with this small bookshelf once you have it assembled. I had to re-drill every screw hole - they are one size too small.
