Q: Are the stones the actual gemstone? How many gems can be dug in this excavation kit?

All of our gemstones are genuine gemstones harvested from nature. We do not include any colored glass. Can dig out 15 different gems.

Q: What age group is this gemstones dig kit appropirate for?

I think it's better to be between 6 and 12 years old. But it all depends on their ability, and you are the best judge. I gave this to my grandson, he said he kept chipping away until he had all the rocks, The guide has information about all the stones he dug up. My grandson is only 7yo so he's was happy.

Q: How long will it take to find all the gems?

The length of time to remove the gemstones would vary widely on a number of factors. If you wet the block it softens it a lot, will become much easier. My 8 yr. old grandson did it by himself and spent about 2 hours and then enjoyed sharing the gems.
