Why dried? How is the freeze/drum drying process more nutritionally valuable than the jarred/canning process traditionally used for baby foods? Freeze and drum drying methods are nutritionally superior over canning in two ways: 1) the preservation of nutrients and phytochemicals, and 2) higher sensory quality of food. With the freeze/drum drying processes, there is less heat exposure to foods and consequently higher preservation of nutrients and phytochemicals. Freeze/drum dried foods look better and taste fresher. What is the importance of feeding organic ingredients to infants? For one, pesticides are widely used on conventional food crops, because pesticides are toxic by design, they can cause harm to humans. Exposure to pesticides over time has been linked to a variety of chronic health problems including: neurological damage, hormone and reproductive problems, and some cancers. Infants are especially vulnerable to the harmful effects of pesticides due to their small body size, immature organ systems and rapidly growing brains. Feeding your child organic foods, which are grown without the use of pesticides is a smart way to provide wholesome nutrition without the harm of synthetic influences. Is it kosher? All of their products are kosher-certified. Is it gluten free? All of their products are gluten free, with the exception of their NurturMeals sweet potato-oatmeal-banana blend. Is the packaging BPA free? Yes, it is! Their packages do not contain BPA. Why do some of the flavors contain maltodextrin and lecithin? Both are binding agents that are used in the drum drying process for the foods. They are also commonly used in other organic baby foods and formulas. Maltodextrins are manufactured from starch and are extensively used as additives for improving the flavor, texture, thickness and stability of many foods and beverages. Like starch, most maltodextrins are easily digested and used for energy in the body. The organic maltodextrin in their products is derived from organic corn. Sunflower lecithin is an emulsifying agent that has become popular as an additive because is it not genetically modified, the way soy lecithin is. Most of the soy that is grown in this country (90%) is genetically modified and not appropriate for use as an additive in organic food. What is the drying method used on their product? Some of their flavors are freeze dried and others are drum dried. Their Yum-a-Roo's are freeze dried, which involves no heat application at all. Most of their NurturMeals flavors are drum dried, which involves the fruits & veggies first being ground to a puree form, flash cooked with minimal heat application, then air dried on large drums. The end result is yummy, healthy, pure fruits and vegetables in powder form that easily mix with liquid (even breastmilk!) to create an infant puree. Are all of these products 100% GMO-free? Yes, all of their products are Non-GMO certified. All of their cleaning procedures following GMPs for sanitation. What is the shelf life? Where can I find the expiry info on their packaging? Their foods have a 24 month shelf life from the date of manufacturing. The "enjoy by" date can be found: embossed on the sides of their NurturMeals pouches, printed on the bottom of NurturMeals boxes, and printed on th
