K&n overall is fantastic but for this particular application I’m required to cut metal and modify the part on my motorcycle. I don’t like that, I want a drop in filter. The requirement for the modification should have been disclosed which it was not. Luckily for me I’m a mechanic and confident in my ability to do this modification but had I been an average customer with no tools or skills this filter would not have worked. That’s why I’ve left a 3/5….for the other folks.

I installed this on a '92 Sportster XL1200 with an S&S Shorty E. This is an excellent filter. The sealing grease is a nice addition. I never used it before but it seemed to work well. The backplate on this model has a tab that should be snapped off (though it's prob not critical) so the filter lays flush but it was easy - linesman's pliers and a file/400-grit sandpaper did the trick in a few minutes. The filter fit perfectly inside the teardrop cover...no problems with air/fuel mixture. I trust K&N. They're more expensive but I think the extra cost is worth paying - this is obviously a well-constructed piece.

This is a great filter i was worried it wouldn't fit my tear drop S&S as it look round in the pic, It is extremely flexible and shapes to fit it perfect. I was also worried about its height but it was perfect fit to, You do have to grind down on a small fin on the inside of your intake which is simple to do and has no effect on your intake but is well worth it. Don't forget to stuff a rag into your intake before you grind it, for i used a 4inch grinder and it took about 30 seconds to do. I suggest you you buy a quality "washable" filter oil before installing to make your investment last.

You have to do a little grinding on the base plate to make it fit, Very easy to do and it is covered in the instructions.

Great price and product. Bought for a S & S Super E w/ tear-drop cover. I had to file down a little tab on the base plate, but no biggie(10 - 15 mins. depending on what you use). Good fit and bike seems more responsive vs. the old foam filter. Would recommend. Will last a lifetime.

I've purchased lots of K&N filters throughout the years. This is the first filter that I have not been 100% happy/satisfied with as it looks like someone took an exacto knife and sliced the insides of the filter trim/sides. Not sure if anyone else received one of these filters in this condition. Also not sure if this is from the manufacturing process and if this is a defective one. Because of the condition of the filter, I've rated it accordingly..
