Used This to Clone System SSD!
I bought a new Dell XPS8930 desktop computer. I don't trust the usual backup procedures. I like to make a clone of the system drive to be sure I have a secure backup. The Dell came with a Hynix SSD (never heard of that brand).I bought this Samsung SSD as a replacement: Samsung 970 EVO 1TB SSD (MZ-V7E1T0BW) NVMe M.2 V-NAND Internal Solid State Drivehttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BN217QGI installed it in this housing/USB adapter. The directions could be a bit clearer (and larger!) but I was able to understand fairly well. Be sure to do the assembly on a clean table so you don't lose the tiny screws. And be sure to use the sticky silicone heat transfer strips.I was pleased that they included the proper USB-C cable and even a screwdriver! I plugged it into the USB-C port on the computer and lots of bright blue LEDs lit on the device. And the Samsung SSD showed up in Disk Management on the Dell computer!I used Macrium Reflect to clone the Dell system drive to this setup. It only took about 15 minutes. I powered everything down. I then carefully removed the existing Hynix SSD from the Dell and replaced it with the Samsung SSD I had just cloned. The Dell booted just fine from the cloned Samsung SSD! I am using the Dell right now. I think this is the best possible endorsement of this device! Thank you for this most valuable product!

Carefull what you try
I bought this for a product evaluation and it worked great from day one.Then... I got the idea to try it with my android tablet.Near as I can tell it's dead now.The drive is fine so it's just the adapter that's ruined. There isn't any reason it shouldn't have worked but blowing it out was really unexpected.

Perfect for storage or bootable USB drive
I spent 3-6 months researching a drive I could use by hooking up via USB to boot Windows/Kali/Hiren's plus have a storage partition. This drive and the adapter I chose has gone above and beyond. When people use my bootable Windows environment they are impressed at how fast/responsive it is.Read/Write tests blew my current M.2 drive that is internal to the laptop out of the water. I highly recommend this drive.I will say the install was a little confusing, per the instructions there should have only been 2 pieces of putty and I had 3, I did some googling and could not find an answer. I applied all 3 pieces as I thought they may need to be applied and have had no issues with heat.

Works, but the USB-C cable provided does not keep up with NVME or USB 3.1
UPDATE(01-22-19):RIITOP contacted me about my speed issues and we found out that the cable provided is the limiting factor in speed. They offered to send a cable capable of faster. For this assistance and help I've increased the rating from 2/5 to 4/5 stars.-----------Original Review below-----------This enclosure works flawlessly, just drop in an NVME drive and watch it go.However, the speed of this enclosure leaves a lot to be desired. As seen in my screenshot, the sequential speed seems limited to just over 305MB/s where the same drive connected to an actual M.2 NVME compatiable slot on my motherboard can reach speeds nearly 10 times that.I had this enclosure plugged into a USB 3.1 slot which is capable of 10Gbps or 1280MB/s and didn't even get close to that. The main reason to pay extra for the NVME capable enclosures for the additional speed which you just don't get.For that reason I'd only recommend this to someone wanting a reliable way to pull data off of an NVME drive. If you are looking for a super fast portable solution for NVME, look somewhere else.

My second SSD now available as needed
Directions in small print but readable. Easy to follow and I installed my SSD from my old computer in just a few minutes. Small screwdriver came with the device so install was pain free. Plugged in included USB cable to my new computer and immediate access. All my data saved and lots of additional storage in quick access SSD.

DOES NOT WORK
Looks great, doesn't work. I have 25+ years of PC experience and I followed the directions precisely. I was trying to use this to migrate my current PCie SSD to my new Samung EVO 970 Plus. My new high-end gaming laptop would not see or detect anything when I plugged this assembled enclosure into my USB C port. It would not even realize that a new USB device had been connected, let alone a new drive. I disabled UEFI and Safeboot in BIOS. I disassembled and reassembled the unit and reinserted my 970 Evo Plus card three times. I tried the included USB 3.0 Type A adapter. I tried different cables and adapters. I rebooted the machine numerous times. I checked my drivers. Nothing I did made the slightest difference. The LEDs flashed so it was obviously connected properly and getting power, but nothing I did could make my laptop see the new drive. I will be returning this. What a disappointment. I'm usually willing to pay a little more to get a quality item that works well and is durable. This not only doesn't work well, it doesn't work at all.

I can't believe it took so long for someone to make this!
It is what it is and does what it says - thank you for making my IT life whole again! Love the NVMe specs, but supporting these things in a commercial setting was nothing but a PITA...that is, until RIITOP (and others I've seen), made this little doohicky. Now imaging NVMe drives is a piece o' cake (like it should be).

I am so pleased these finally exist!
I clone a lot of drives, have done 10~ just this week. Usually for M2 NGFF/NVME I need to clone to an intermediary drive, then back down to the new drive installed in the host. Not any more! So stoked! Wish this product existed years ago but I'm happy that it's finally here now.
