Guillow'sSpirit of St. Louis Model Kit

This model is Die Stamped, and you have to manually mark, and cut out every notch for the stringers with an exacto knife or dremel. The parts also have to be removed with a razor blade. They don't come out on their own. So it's a very, very time consuming plane to construct. But, with patience and dedication it will turn out Awesome. Not for a beginner by any means.

After watching Jimmy Stewart in the movie "Spirit of St. Louis", I decided I wanted to build a flying balsa-wood model as a winter project. It was easy to find and order on Amazon.Com. It arrived quickly and I am delighted with the kit. It will test my limited experience with balsa-wood models but the drawings and instructions seem very complete. Thanks to Amazon and the supplier, both were very helpful.

I would have liked this kit to be laser cut as it's more neat. You need to be careful in cutting pieces out as at times you are cutting across the grain and you lose portions of the wood.

I was hoping that it would have been the "laser cut" model.

A little harder to put together than the last time I built this very plane. Great plans and fun to do.

Received kit without wheels. I am waiting for replacement wheels, I have e-mail on file.

My third Guillow’s kit. The first two were laser-cut, and this is die-cut. There’s a world of difference! The parts on this kit are very difficult to remove from their boards, often breaking, and often with poorly formed slots for adjoining pieces. Had I realized it was die-cut I would not have purchased this kit.

The balsa wood on this model is really thin and splits when you try to cut out the pieces.
