Very dull. Needs sharpening.
It arrived with a very dull edge and was not useable until I sharpened it with a belt sander. Forget about hand sharpening it, it would take hours of work. Once sharpened it worked great, Gave it five stars because the price is reasonable.

Tool is a diamond in the rough
An adze is not a tool you'll reach for often these days, let alone have much use for outside of specialized tasks. That said, I found myself needing one for a small project. I did not want to spend a lot of money, nor did I want to go to antique stores looking for one. So I found this one. Upon arrival, my initial inspection made me concerned. As the previous comment mentioned, there is no edge to the blade. If you don't have a grinding wheel or sharpening stones, you'll want to them. I spent around 2 hours sharpening this tool using a grinding wheel, whetstones, and a file. I got it too the sharpness I wanted, but it took a while. It is important to note that the handle of an adze should come unattached, as this is the only way you can accurately and comfortably sharpen the blade. My only concern with this tool is the quality of the steel. The edge has held with use so that has alleviated some of this concern but elsewhere on the tool there are areas that came chipped. For example, the hammer part of the adze has the largest defect on the tool with an entire corner missing. This appears that it was caught when forged, and somewhere down the line it looks like it was epoxied and covered with paint. The stuff crumbles when I scratch it. As it is part of the tool I won't be using, I can forgive it. I didn't buy the adze to use as a hammer. As for quality, this tool is a 4. For use, after sharpened, this tool is a 5 as it does what an adze is supposed to do.

Needs Sharpening For Wood; Great For Gardening; Needs a Grip
Saw something like this used by a solo tent camper in the snow and cold. Both a trencher and a hammer for tent stakes. Looked useful. Not too expensive.Upon arrival, as you can see from the picture, the blade is not sharp AT ALL. It's basically for trenching in dirt to guide water away from your tent. Or roughing up your garden soil.If you want to carve wood, you'll need to grind the edge to sharpness. But who carves wood? The other thing I'd do is add some sort of grip assistance, like wrapping a baseball bat or a tennis racket with grip tape. The wood handle is grooved, but overall, the round handle is smooth. Could use some "grippiness."I added this adze to my collection of hammers. I like it.

Simple but solid.
Not a real pretty tool, but sturdy and functional. It will need a sharpening.

Not a good tool
Not sharp at all...comes in two pieces. Not a good tool at all. At least it was cheap. I guess you do get what you pay for.

It's a really nice tool but......
I've posted before and after pictures of the edge. It will take work. You can't use it for its advertised uses without a lot of work. Out of the bag it is as dull as a butter knife. The edge is blunt. You can't use it as an adze. "Used (sic) the adze for scaling bark, shaping and trimming timber and any job requiring a tool capable of rapid wood removal", except it bounce of the bark of a branch I tried to scale. I spent about 30 minutes at a grinding wheel, a couple of hones, and file before I was able to get a decent edge on it.On the plus side it's good as a hammer though the balance is awful, decent at pulling nails, and it breaks down for storage in a tool bag or pack. The wood handle is very comfortable. If they shipped it with a sharp edge it would have been a 5.

Excellent Tool!
The adze is an excellent quality tool. The blade needed to be ground to a finer edge and sharpened before use as expected with most woodworking tools at this price point. I like that the handle can be easily removed for sharpening and storage, and reassembled quickly for use. I would recommend this tool if you are into hand tool woodworking or green woodworking.

Great multipurpose tool
This is a great multipurpose tool. When working around my yard garden or house I hate to have to carry several tools to do things. I am enjoying using it.
