Q: Why does the picture start lagging and audio cut out every time I change resolution to 1080i. I have the devices right next to each other but

The only way I could reduce the video lag was to reduce the quality to 720, but then I had just that, reduced quality. I sent mine back for a refund.

Q: Can i use a connect a pc to a hdmi switch before connecting to the transmitter?

Yes I think you can, However I found this particular product Very unreliable For not pairing up or loosing connection between Transmitter and Receiver. Also very poor transmission distance.
