a work of inspiration
Dr. Herzl writes in "The Jewish State" to the Jewish people and others on how to obtain a Jewish state and how to implement the tactics and strategies to obtain that independent state. Although brilliant and it is cited throughout the literature as a cornerstone of all such works, it is, nevertheless, filled with, well, limitations, Herzl nowhere in his writing discusses the difficulties imposed by founding a nation (palestine) in which natives (palestinians) already reside. relations with the muslim nations and its eventual role as broker between russia and the united state are also not discussed, although, in all fairness, this could not be seen. Reading this after the Armenian genocide and the Holocaust provides the reader with tremendous insights into his arguments and the passions of his arguments. Again, the tactics that he proposed were those of a man fully devoted to an issue but who didn't have a complete grasp of all of the issues. Brilliant work by a man who sacrificed so much for the realization of an Israeli state. I highly recommend your reviewing this seminal work - I bought it on Kindle for 99 cents. I wouldn't recommend buying it at $80 - read it at a public library. I give this an A-!!!

Thinking alike!
I appreciate the highlights of other readers. We often were on the "Same Page". Pun intended. It shows the popularity of what is being read and almost a shared experience like listening to the radio knowing that others are experiencing it to.

The founding father of Zionism
I bought this book for one of my political theory classes as I am a political science major. This book is essential for people that are interested both political theory and international politics. It is good insight on Zionism and Israel as it is the foundational book. It came in perfect condition as well.

A "Must Read" if You Wish to Understand the Roots of Zionism
The seminal work on Zionism offering clear insight into the author's assessment of the tenuous state of both assimilated and more traditional Jews in Europe. A "must read" for anyone who seeks understanding of the origins and aspirations of the Jewish state.

Must Read for Historians, Jews and Arabs.
Herzl is perhaps the best known proponent of zionism, and the ideological founder of the State of Israel. His ideals were utopian and despite of the the controversy with zionism, the writings shows his belief of modernity, nationalism and equality between Jews and Arabs. His ideals are not realized as we see in today's Middle Eastern conflicts, but his belief for Jewish emancipation and the ideals of a nation for Jews but not ONLY for Jews is something all Jews can learn, perhaps especially in Israel.

Herzl's Zionism in Brief
A document of historical interest and significance, Herzl's Jewish State argues that Jews will never be fully accepted as a minority in any country, and that therefore they must form a separate state. He proceeds to outline in bold, imaginative terms, just how that might be possible. His assumptions are that there will be a great deal more cooperation and solidarity with the Jewish State than was actually the case. Though he calls on religious themes of the "Promised Land", he assures that there will be a secular state. If you are interested in the genesis of Zionism, then you must read this at some point. This particular copy was laden with sloppy typos, and had just the bare bones text; no introduction or context is provided. You may wish to find a better publisher, though this text itself is workable at least.

History In the making a century ago.
Excellent from historical perspective. Herzl was brilliant and very insightful.Text is very difficult to read. Very long and complex thoughts in same paragraphs. It is a manifesto written over a century ago. You must read it with this in mind. Don't expect it to read like a novel.or you will never get through it.
