Great book if you have the time and patience to give to it.
I have the first issue of this book and really like it, but it's falling apart with use. This edition is more or less the same as far as I can tell so far, however some of the style of print has changed and I find it slightly more difficult to read. It's not a major problem, just mildly irritating as I preferred the original. The content of the book itself, I really like. To teach yourself classical guitar from a book is not the easiest thing in the world to do, but Fredrick Noad has made a great job of a difficult task.

Excellent for the autodidact dedicated person
The book doesn't come with the cd as mentioned in other reviews. The book takes you through the notes of the first three frets chord by chord. For each chord you have a set of exercises which you have to play well before moving forward. These exercises teach you how to read music and the notes as well. The difficulty grows progressively. The book doesn't contain tabs. The method focuses on a lot of practice and you need patience and hard work to evolve. All the exercises i've done so far (23) sound great and you get the feeling of playing even from the first chord. The cd starts later in the book and I do not know how useful it is.The book works well for an autodidact person even with no previous music playing experience. Compared to the 'for dummies' method, I find it to be more organized and professional.Overall, it is an excellent method but bear in mind that the book without constant hard work doesn't take you anywhere.

I'd never considered reading music
Just wanted to strum a few tunes for pleasure but my guitar tutor suggested that this was the best approach. He recommended this book and we're working through it together. It's clear and simple to follow even for a complete beginner like me. I suspect that someone with a little more natural talent than I have would be able to successfully work through this book alone. Would recommend it.
