Outstanding
Outstanding guide for a beginning player and I'm sure there's enough content, presented in such a readable fashion, that I'll be going back to it for years.

Very useful book
I learned to play bridge a year ago and I have found that much of my instruction along the way has concentrated on declarer play. For me, this book has been very helpful in improving my play when defending. Mr Kantar explains the principles very well and with humour. I'm very glad I bought this book.

An outstanding, if a bit dated, book on defense. A must-own if you're learning bridge.
A wonderful introduction to defense by one of the finest bridge writers. The only reservation is that some of the content is a bit dated. For example, Kantar recommends playing the K from AKx, and the modern treatment is to lead the Ace. It's a small thing, but lead to some tense moments in my last duplicate game! If you are learning to play bridge, you need this book. It's the finest bridge text I've read yet, on a par with Watson's Play of the Hand.

Introduction to Defender's Play by Eddie Kantar
My opinion is that this is one of the all-time best bridge books ever written for beginners and even very good players. I have read it over 6 times (I'm in the midst of the 7th) and it has lost a little since I first read it. But, the first 4 times I read it, I got something from it every single time and I'm a decent player.

Great intro
This book, together with his "Introduction to Declarer's Play" makes a good introduction to Bridge Playing. The Bridge begginers, struggling with the bidding system, often forget that the bidding is only the first part of Bridge board. The second one, equally important, and sometimes even more hard to learn and perform correctly.Although this book is 20 years old, it is still very nice first step in bridge playing.

A "must" for every beginner or intermediate player
I agree with Kantar that defense in bridge is an extremely important and difficult aspect of the game. It is given insufficient attention in teaching books. After reading this book, I no longer complained when I had "lousy" hand, but looked at it in a completely different light, thinking to myself, "Well, how can I make the most of these measly points and set the contract?"BUT your partner has to be on board with it. Defense is a team sport!

Very effective information
This small book contains very effective information on appropriately defending at bridge. It is set up so you can understand it whether you have played bridge for awhile or are a novice. It also gives you the right tools to play correctly with others who know the game.
