The material is fleece, so has holes in it. There is no waterproofing treatment that I know of and no membrane such as Gore-tex. It may be water repellant but not waterproof.

Q: If i buy this beanie and wear it in hot weather will i look like a hipster colin farrell?

These caps are nice, but way too warm for hot weather.

Q: I have a fairly large head. They don't offer this hat in an ex-large. Just wondering if a large would be big enough.

The person I bought it for has a rather large head. He said that after he wore it a couple of times it started staying on his head. He is very satisfied with the fit now and this has become his favorite hat.

Q: How will this work for a size 8 head?

They are tight. You will need at least a large if not an extra large size. I like mine.
