![Wwe: In Your House - 27 And 28 [DVD]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/5139ywLRxdL.jpg)

Double bill of featured matches and fights from the World Wrestling Entertainment series. From 1999, 'In Your House 27' features Stone Cold Steve Austin taking on Shane McMahon in the 15-foot steel cage, while the first annual Backlash has Austin squaring up to The Rock for the WWE championship, with McMahon as guest referee. In the 'Boiler Room Brawl', Mankind and The Big Show decide it's time to get a lot closer. Review: WWE tagged classics - The black steel cage match between Vince & Stone Cold is brill. The debut of Paul White aka Big Show alone is worth the buy. Great PPV. Got here fast & in good condition. Review: Tagged Classics indeed - I found the first, low rated review to be pretty unfair. These two Pay-Per-Views were garnering towards the peak of the "Attitude Era" I don't do spoilers, so here goes my reviews, as per slated on my DVD casing: ST VALENTINE'S DAY MASSACRE (IN YOUR HOUSE 27) Steve Austin VS Mr McMahon (steel cage match) This bout packed everything in. The lone anti-hero "Stone Cold" Steve Austin battling against his boss, the tyrant like Mr McMahon. For every working-class guy who has ever wanted to beat their boss senseless, this match is for you. Not a classic match by any means, but an aggressive, cat and mouse type affair which sees Vince break his coccyx by going through a table, and carry on the match. This match also debuts a certain giant. Good fun, entertaining and a repeatable watch. The Rock VS Mankind (Last man standing for WWE title) The Rock and Mankind (Mick Foley) have had several iconic, often brutal matches over the years. This one is no different. Both men put on a tremendous showing with an otherwise unexpected outcome. First class. Kane & Chyna V Triple H & X-pac This match took place, in my memory, during the break-up of D-X. For a mid-card match, this was very entertaining, with Kane, a 7 foot, 300 pound man able to fly around the ring and keep as agile and alert as his much smaller, skinnier opponents. Chyna adds a little depth to this match as my memory serves me, Kane was in a relationship with Chyna at this point. No giveaways here but a good showing which I wouldn't skip. Ken Shamrock V Val Venis (IC Title match) This match was O.K. Bearing in mind that the "Attitude Era" had a couple of HUGE rivalries at this point, and a developing tag-team division, it's easier to look at this match from a wrestling ability point of view. It has its faults and I wouldn't watch this again but from a mid-card standpoint, in comparison to other PPVs, it serves its purpose. The title had to go somewhere, and the WWF/WWE were also developing their Intercontinental division of superstars. Jeff Jarrett & Owen Hart VS Mark Henry & D-LO Brown As I said previously, the company were in the midst of re-developing a solid tag-team division. Jeff & Owen carried this match with an impressive showing, and D-Lo did his best to work with a behemoth like Mark Henry. I would watch this again, a nice tag-team match that ran smoothly. Big Boss Man V Mideon Undercard fodder here, nothing worth commenting on. Every PPV has it's worthless matches, this is it. Two slow, sluggish men. SKIP. Al Snow V Hardcore Holly (Hardcore Championship match) An EXCELLENT match which is fast paced and erratic, blink and you'll miss another entertaining and brutal moment. Both men take this falls count anywhere match everywhere in the arena, even outside into the Mississippi River. DO NOT MISS. Goldust V Bluedust The homo-erotic, androgynous Goldust VS his strange, stalker-esque counterpart The Blue Meanie. This match is decent for storyline depth at the very least. It's not long so therefore sufferable Backlash (In Your House 28) Steve Austin VS The Rock (No holds barred, special referee Shane McMahon) Plenty of ups and downs in a battle between the WWF/WWE's two biggest superstars at the time. I don't want to say to much, but when did these two ever have a bad match? Better than their Wrestlemania showing at the time. Awe-inspiring, edge of your seat match. Ken Shamrock VS The Undertaker I was a little weary as these two men have severely different styles of wrestling but it surprised me, a fantastic match here which I would, and have, watched again. X-Pac V Triple H This match was AFTER the break-up of D-X I believe, a good match, again these two competitors had two very different styles but a chemistry which matched to make a solid mid-card event. Good showing here, wouldn't knock it. Big Show VS Mankind (Boiler Room Brawl) This match is brutal beyond my review itself. Please buy the DVD, steal the DVD, or watch on youtube to find this match. Extremely entertaining and I find myself delving into my DVD collection to watch this again and again. Much better than the previous Boiler Room match in my opinion. Several entertaining spots in what is essentially a Hardcore match. New Age Outlaws VS Owen Hart & Jeff Jarrett On from my previous review, the company had found itself a few nice tag teams, namely these two along with a few others that would pop up in different periods throughout the year. An entertaining match for a couple of reasons, won't go into that though. Worth a watch, a good tag-team bout here. Goldust VS The Godfather (IC Title match) As previously stated, there is always mid-card fodder. It always amuses me to think that the WWE promoted a character that hired out prostitutes to others. Anyhow, nothing worth noting here, a nice victory for a crowd favourite. Al Snow VS Hardcore Holly Another extremely impressive Hardcore match from these two guys. They really do pull out all the stops, including (literally) the kitchen sink) they fight inside and outside the arena in all areas, and I again find myself watching this match over and over for sheer entertainment. MUST WATCH. Gangrel, Edge & Christian VS Mideon & The Acolytes In what was then named "The Brood" a vampire like character and his co-horts similar to The Lost Boys took on the Occult loving Mideon and his larger cronies The Acolytes. A good tag-team opener here, all the men stated are talented wrestlers so you can't really go wrong. If you're starting out as a WWE fan, going back to the wonder years, or just interested, I'd seriously suggest buying this DVD. The pros seriously outweigh the cons and there are a plethora of entertaining matches. Great package by WWE.

the highs and the lows
Another nice tagged classic release, two events from 1999,either side of wrestlemania 15,attitude pouring like wine, worth buying, read on! Valentines day massacre occured on valentines day and was hyped up big time, the opening match could have caused people to ask for a refund though, goldust fought bluedust, this match was poor, looked poor, both men huffed and puffed and couldnt have set a fire between them if they had gasoline and a box of matches,it was short, dull, lame and, well you get the idea. The hardcore championship was vacant as bob holly fought al snow next, this match was fun,yet manic,as many of the hardcore matches back in the day were, the match left the building and headed towards a nice river, good stuff. The big bossman fought mideon next, this match was awful, the crowd chanted boring,i joined them, dull as dishwater. The WWF tag team championships were contested next as the champs jeff jarrett and owen hart,a good team in my eyes, defended the belts against mark henry and d-lo brown. Both teams were heels in truth and the crowd didnt care for either so this affected the performance but it was an ok match. The intercontiental title was contested next as val venis fought ken shamrock in one of the worst matches of all time and one of the most damaging matches in terms of keeping alive the notion that wrestling isnt fixed. At one point ken got into a fight with his sister and said very loudly now slap me,it shamed me,shamed that spoon shamrock and shamed the company, how he wasnt fired is beyond me. kane and the undertaker fought x pac and triple h next in a tag team match that looked tasty enough on paper,i always felt x pac would be the weak link and he was,the match had a somewhat scattered feel to it and some of the moves were poorly executed. A last man standing match for the wwf championshiop was up next as the rock fought mankind, after their classic match at the royal rumble it was fair to say that this match wouldnt be as good, and it wasnt, but on the night it was a good match,it wasnt perfect but it got the crowd frantic after being treated to some poor matches. The main event was up next ,a match we all wanted, vince versus stonecold in a steel cage. The very short review of this match is that i loved it,i will leave it there. Backlash 99 makes up the second disc here and featured in april 99.This event was better than valentines day massacre.Thankfully. The event opened with a six man tag featuring the brood, gangrel, edge, christian going up against the ministry of darkness, bradshaw, faarooq and mideon. This match was fairly good but mideons performance was awful, and he had plenty of ring time. This was a mixed opener at best. The hardcore championship was contested next as al snow went up against hardcore holly who was the champ, these two men battled like machines here but something wasnt quite right, this was just ok. The godfather fought goldust next in a pretty poor match, sluggish at best and awkward, these two put in a match that emphasised that these two could have awful nights. The new age outlaws fought jeff jarrett and owen hart next in a good enough match,it wasnt pretty or spectacular but it served its purpose. A boiler room match featured next, mankind fought the big show in a brutal, quite nasty match that was something different, quality. Triple h fought x pac in an overly long match that wasnt that intense, had it of been then triple h would have knocked x-pacs head of in a few minutes, the pace of this match was poor and it got boring too quick,it should have been better but the two wrestlers are certainly not in the same league. The undertaker fought ken shamrock in a very good match, one of shamrocks best,he gave his all and the taker worked well with him and the two shared chemistry that i didnt believe they could generate. The main event for the WWF championship was up next, the rock versus stonecold,a match we saw many a time back in the day but always a match to look forward too and here again we had a very high energy bout with some quality hits and a terrific showcase from the top two at the time,a great main event. The two pay per views here are far from perfect but contain some good things,2.5 stars out of 5.

St valentines day massacre and backlash 99 tagged classics review by dan 123rko
Some great action from the attitude error! St valentines day massacre is slightly disappointing overall but picks up towards the end with the brutal rock v mankind last man standing match and the stone cold v mr McMahon cage match! Backlash 1999 is the real gem of the set with a great card featuring mankind v big show in a boiler room brawl, a great hardcore match between al snow and hardcore Holly that carries over to the parking lot as well as x PAC v triple h, undertaker v ken shamrock and the wrestlemania rematch of the rock v stone cold for the wwf championship under no holds barred rules! Back when wresting was at the height of it's popularity these two cards are a great look back at the over the top stars and great action! Recommend for any fan of the attitude era!
