Shipped without a battery. This takes a 9 volt battery, fortunately I had one. As for performance, it works very good....easy to read display...instant on and shut off when not use. With battery, I would rate it five stars.

First time installing a small electric fence (armadillos) - Small charger and no lights to even tell me if the fence was live. No directions in box, but are part of the Amazon listing - super easy and safe. Good value for money, not having to test with the back of my hand? Priceless.

I've been using this for awhile now. It works just as I would expect it to work. Good product.

I am not pleased with a number issues1) I do not like the fact the instrument has no on or off display. The user has no way of knowing if the device even works. The Screen display come on the 6 seconds and turn blank2) I bought it to determine if the fence charger was working. If you place on a wire connected to a charger the device remains blake. You have no way of knowing is the battery in the device is faulty. Or maybe the device is wire wrong from the factory. You have know way of knowing what is the problem3 ) the instrument only show a display if it senses active high voltage in a functioning electric charging fence system. It is useless for diagnostics of problems4) I would not recommend the instrument unless you are positive it is working. But why would you need a instrument to tell you what you already know5) the sellers need to re design the device
