I'm Every Woman: The Best Of Chaka Khan

Great singer undone by dull insipid song choices, save two tracks
CK’s choice of material was weak as this compilation demonstrates. It’s so poor that many of the songs are from just one LP-epiphany, which itself was formed from in the main part of a recorded LP that was never released as such. CK also suffers from the 80/90s syndrome of cheesy cliched sounds, particularly in soul, r&b and disco. The highlights by a long margin are ain’t nobody and i’m Every woman and despite being two great songs, it hardly amounts to a glittering career. Frankly, you can throw away the rest on this CD, even ‘I feel for you’ which has aged badly for the aforementioned reason. CK, it was reported, hated it. So while she is a great singer, the songs here are dull and insipid. It may be her best, but it doesn’t count for much in a wasteful period for such a gifted singer.

Some great tracks. Some more popular than others , yet definitely worth purchasing. One of my favourite being Never Miss the Water

A great introduction to Chaka Khan!
This CD in my opinion is a good introduction to Chaka Khan. It has hits of hers from 1981 to 1996, from 'I feel for you' an ultra fast song that makes u wanna get up and dance with chaka to 'The end of the love affair' a lovely ballad/jazzy song that shows of Chaka Khans strong and luscious vocals. Other notable songs are 'I know you, I live you,' Ain't Nobody (recently covered by Liberty X) ,'What Cha' gonna do for me' and not forgetting 'I'm Every Woman'! There are also more jazzy tracks throughout, there's a live track and the CD that i have is an HDCD (high definition compatible disc), which sounds great and also plays in any CD player. This CD is great, and I would recommend it to anybody and everybody!

Funky Tunes From Chaka
I bought this album for my partner who is a huge fan of Chaka Khan.It kind of supprised me that Chaka Khan became infamous through releasing 4 iconic tunes; as the rest of them, I had never heard of, considering that this album is The Best Of Chaka Khan. I love the tunes that are familiar to me, but was dissapointed in some of the other songs on the album. Chaka Khan is an amazing vocalist, with a signature voice which is instantly recognisable. I thought that this album would have been full of numerous hits, but sadly I was mistaken. The album is medeoker; the only tracks i will listen to are the few tracks which she is well known for, & this leaves me with 4 tracks out of a 16 track album....thank goodness I only spent £4.99 for a used copy (but in amazing condition).

Funky soul music as good as it gets
I never paid much attention to Chaka Khan until a friend and fellow reviewer persuaded me to listen to her music and that of Rufus, the group she once fronted. Of course, he was right - Chaka is a great singer.Chaka Khan's biggest hit was I feel for you, which made number two in her American homeland and number one in Britain. I'm every woman, Ain't nobody (with Rufus) and This is my night are among her other classic hits on both sides of the Atlantic. This compilation is a great introduction to the music of Chaka Khan, but if you enjoy this, also look up Rufus, whose Greatest hits I've already reviewed.
