Crazy Sexy Kitchen: 150 Plant-Empowered Recipes to Ignite a Mouthwatering Revolution

Please Write Like A Grownup !!
This book has a lot of basic information and will be helpful for those who have know nothing about vegetarian/vegan eating. There are lovely colorful pictures of the finished products and the recipes as easy to follow. Some of the ingredients are the kind you have to do a lot of searching for but that is to be expected when there is a well-known chef on the cover standing right behind the author! Anyway, trying new things is always fun and exciting. The first 80 pages are all information about what gadgets you need, what is healthy eating, terminology, the "philosophy" behind healthy eating (??), prep work etc. You see where I'm going here. Very good for a beginner - but wasted pages for anyone who has even a basic knowledge of healthy eating. I found the recipes tasty and to be the highlight of the book and there were little tips and info here and there that I liked and will use. So why did I give it only 3 stars?? The book reads as if a 15 year old had written it - that's why!!"Crazy-sexy" is the watch word for this woman - I know it's her trademark, but come on - does it have to be said every 3 pages?? Here is just a sampling of the wording used in this book: badboy, unicorn wings (?), Zing!, megahit, moo juice (does anyone say that anymore?), veggies (used constantly!), sub it out, slam-dunk, sexy, cool, easy-peasy, yummy, delish, Batmobile of wraps (figure that one out !), holy topping trinity, detox diva, this rocks, from snore to encore, taste-gasm, teriyaki touchdown, supah (super), banzai! and the list goes on and on!Those words were only a few of the more annoying ones taken from just half of the recipes! The beginning non-recipe pages are chock full of all sorts of this silly talk which became increasingly annoying to me. When I get a new cookbook I generally read through most of it before I even start any cooking. Just browsing and getting ideas or what sounds good. The writing in this book was so annoying to me that I got only a little way into it. I had to read it in manageable bits! I understand and read about Ms. Carr's cancer history and the books and documentry she had written and made regarding her story. The first time people heard "crazy sexy" in the same sentence with cancer it was unique and catchy. But after the hundreth time it gets pretentious, boring and downright stupid! I know it's her "thing" to be "crazy sexy" outspoken and hip, but leave some of it on Oprah or at home when you are writing a cookbook. A little of that goes a very long way and she is not a teenager or even an old hipster! It's as if she's trying so very hard to be cool - and falling flat! So much of the jargon is outdated and cringe worthy that I have a hard time believing that she willingly allowed some of this to be printed. Maybe her handlers said that this would sell more books. I know that it's only a cookbook, but, heck, don't try to make it as lame sounding as possible. Class it up a little bit - we can take it !!If she writes another cookbook - and she's just crazy sexy enough to do it - I will not buy it. I love sitting down with a new cookbook and a big cup of tea, but I want it to be fun and interesting - not a frustration and a chore!

Oozing with Vegggenthusiasm
I have admired the world of vegan, and raw vegan nutrition for years. I say admire, because every time I've tried to incorporate it into my life I have failed, and then flailed in defeat.I don't use cookbooks; cooking just hasn't been something that gets me excited. Ever. But I kinda follow Kris on the internets, and had used a Youtube video of hers to make proper use of my over-priced juicer. She is so fun...So I got CSK back in November, and it sat on my desk just looking sexy for a month or two. Then about 2 weeks ago, upon seeing my fridge was completely empty and a trip to the grocery was in order--I decided to finally take a moment and see if there was a recipe I could shop for...It started with a simple salad dressing. "Oh wow, this is so easy." DELICIOUS. Then I found myself going back to the store for a handful of new spices. And more veggies. (Probably more veggies than I've eaten in the last 3 months...) Then asking my neighbor what a parsnip was... and if I could borrow some yellow miso. And ordering funny little slicers and nut bags from Amazon. And making a date to hit the farmers market! It's like a whole new woman is living in my apartment, making me delicious, nutritious, beautiful meals. I have NEVER wanted to be in the kitchen for more than 15 minutes at a time, and last night I sat down and wrote out a meal plan to make sure I had all the ingredients for the recipes I want to try this week. Zesty lemon lentil soup last night (warm and savory yet light and fresh!?); just finished the farmer's salad for lunch (this watercress is unreal; what the heck is aioli!? It's delish; that's what it is). I cannot tell you--this food makes me SO HAPPY.Which is to say--this book is beyond good. It is ceiling-shattering good for a girl who's been trying to drop gluten and dairy and processed junk and spontaneous h'angry episodes due to poor planning FOR YEARS. All these veggies have me feeling like Popeye...in Lulu pants.I seriously feel all the love and goodness you packed into this, Kris Carr. THANK YOU.And if you write another I'll buy 10 copies.

Inspiring, if a little too chef-y
This is a beautiful book, full of so much great information about why we need to re-evaluate the way we eat. I really appreciated the discussion on why meat and dairy is detrimental to our bodies, and that it was presented in an inspiring way, showing you how much tastier, lively, and energizing it is to eat a plant based diet! Seeing this book is on the market is so encouraging, I'm sure it will inspire hundreds of thousands of people to eat for health! The colorful layout is really nice and its full of great recipes. I especially like the awesome dressings and condiments (cashew cream cheese!), with exciting complex flavors that really put your recipes over the top and make eating plant based enjoyable and delicious. My one caveat with this book is that there are a lot of recipes that are too "chef-y"... I've read many, many cookbooks and am passionate about cooking, and what I really want when I'm cooking at home is straight-forward, down to earth recipes that deliver amazing food. If CSK thinks I'm about to whip out a commercial smoker and hickory chips to smoke some king trumpet mushrooms for a recipe, please GET REAL. If I wanted restaurant style food and presentation, I'd go to a restaurant. Its highly disappointing to see that kind of thing in a cookbook, because it is so unnecessary for amazing home cooking. Also, the insane overuse of alliteration and cutesy language throughout the book almost made me sick to my stomach. But, I really don't want to be too critical, its a powerful book, and I do have a lot of love for it- its a must have!I should say though, that at the same time I bought this book, I bought Superfood Kitchen by Julie Morris, and it gets pretty much daily use, the recipes are very approachable- I highly recommend it as well!

Complicated recipes
Good information generally, but some of the recipes are so long and complicated. Put me off. I love Kris Carr so was disappointed. Enjoyed start of book before recipes started.

Good book. I do love Kris and she is such an inspiration. Sadly a lot of the ingredients are quite hard to find, being mostly organic. I liked the book though and especially enjoyed the introduction.

Wow
This book is great whether you are dipping your toe into plant based eating or diving in! I was apprehensive but am enjoying it so far. So much so that I am off to make my morning Green smoothie now.Only issue is I am struggling to get Nutritional yeast but it has given me an excuse to have a visit to London so no great trauma.
