Astounding
I'd read this years ago as a kid, right after the holes movie came out, had to have the sequel.Having Armpit have such growth as a character, feeling like a real person we can run into and worry about .

A memorable work
At first I was missing a few of the old characters we had all come to know and love in “Holes”, however, this piece quickly takes on a life of its own as its characters enwrap within a new misadventure. It is a very recommendable book, sans a few mature lines of dialogue that I could have lived without (what with it being for young adults). But Louis Sachar does not disappoint. It’s clear to see the great talent and focus employed in the process of compiling this story.

SEQUEL TAKES "SMALL STEPS" WITH "SWEET-FEET"
Louis Sachar the award-winning author of over twenty fiction and educational books for children including the Marvin Redpost and Wayside School series. Holes, won the prestigious National Book Award, the Newbery Medal, sold 6 million copies, and was successfully translated to film. Now we finally learn what life is like AFTER CAMP GREEN LAKE. "Small Steps" is a follow-up to Holes, it features ARMPIT aka Theodore Johnson, still digging holes, but now as a landscaper, trying to finish up high school. Armpit's new life is turned upside when X-Ray shows up with a ticket scalping scheme involving teen pop star, Kaira DeLeon. Armpit, who has been trying to take his own "small steps" to the straight and narrow, finds himself once again running afoul of the law.Eight years after Sachar's breakout hit with Holes, he needs to take big steps to fill "sweet-feet's" proverbal shoes. Does Sachar manage it? Yes, mostly, "Small Steps" is a good book, but not a great one. Sachar's voice is just as clear, and the situations are more realistic. He is most successful with relationships, like Armpit and Ginny a 10-year-old girl with cerebral palsy whose family lives on the other side of his family's East Austin duplex. The publisher should have resisted the temptation to call "Small Steps" a "companion to Holes" to reduce heavy expectations... especially since the obvious follow-up would be the story of Stanley, Zero and their newfound millions, instead of focusing on one of Camp Green Lake's less appealing characters..

A definite reccomendation
Such a great book. I especially enjoyed how the story followed two different characters without lacking in quality on either character's side. There was a few editing mistakes to which I noticed, but this only takes away some of the respect I have for the author, not the book. I also appreciated that all the characters had personalities that were strong and very present throughout the story. They truly brought life to the book. As for the plot, I enjoyed how simple, yet well done it was. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a very entertaining story, but if you are planning on reading this story, than I would suggest that you do not start reading with the expectations that this will start right where Holes left off, as the main character in this book is not Stanley Yelnats, but Armpit, who was a minor character in the first book. Overall, a great read and something I could not put down.

Interesting followup to Holes
I enjoyed this new take on the Holes saga. There were some tedious parts of the first book but this was a little more interesting with a story from the perspective of the other boys from Camp Green Lake. Crazy shenanigans and lots of weird characters, but not a bad book. I'm only giving it four instead of five because it seemed to be all over the place and it was hard to keep track of all the characters. But it was still a good book.

A lovely sequel to "Holes"
Another delightful story by Louis Sachar. The storyline was uncomplicated and Louis has a very laid back, empathetic yet witty style of writing. I found myself willing life to deal Armpit a decent hand. Very endearing characters who come across as real and believable.
