Excellent quality light, compact ultra-wide angle zoom
Most 14mm wide angle zooms are huge and heavy with bulbous front elements that won't accept standard filter systems. But this lens is hardly any bigger or heavier than a 20/1.8 prime and has a standard 82mm filter thread. It's actually quite amazing how small and light it is. Build quality is comparable to the 24-70/4, which is to say not at the same level as the new 24-70/2.8 but on par for a light, compact design. Optically, it's very impressive. I've read some reports of sample variation, so you should check your copy. I haven't been able to detect any decentering etc with mine. My initial testing shows a slight corner weakness at 14mm on a planar subject (brick wall), but I haven't been able to replicate this in real world images at normal shooting apertures, so this may be nothing more than a mild degree of field curvature. Overall image quality is exceptional, essentially perfect wide open from 16mm and excellent from middle apertures at 14mm. Unlike many wide angle zooms, my copy exhibits no drop in quality at the long end, meaning the lens is fully useable at 24-30mm and better at 24mm than my copy of the 24-70/4. Overall, a very impressive lens, particularly considering the wide focal length range and incredibly compact design. Highly recommended.

Excellent Nikon glass as usual
I am gradually changing from Nikon DSLRs to my Z6 in order to lose the FTZ mount eventually as I do not get on with it!This lens is the first of the replacements, mainly for my 18mm ultra wide angle Nikkor F mount version. As the new Z line up does not have a prime 18mm I went for the next best thing, a lens which would zoom through that focal length.I have only really had it out of the box a couple of days, and used it, ironically enough, to photograph the old F mount 18mm for sale. I have to say it performed as expected, as you would expect from Nikkor glass. Crisp edge to edge, lovely bokeh with the aperture wide open and smooth in operation. The only thing I find a little bit weird but am adapting gradually is that it has a 'store' position with the extending part of the lens held close to the camera body. You get to this 'store' position by sort of over twisting it from its longest zoom position. Now I'm used to it it is useful as a space saver and a lens protector. All told, while it is a HUGE change to move from F mount to Z mount, I am glad I am making that change and if the other lenses in the Z range which I have ordered are half as good as this one I shall be a happy bunny indeed!

Sharp, versatile and compact
This balances and handles extremely well on my Z6. It's also very sharp at all focal lengths and apertures. Plus the ability to use filters is a real bonus on a lens that goes so wide.OK, nothing's perfect, though. I don't much like to have to unlock to use, but accept this as a priced for its compactness. Needless to say, F2.8 is always nice in zooms, but that would make it twice as heavy, and twice as expensive. Since my main portfolio is global travel and environment, this F4 hits the spot! Accordingly, a no-brainer for Nikon Z users.Parenthetically, though - Nikon, where is a native 70-200 F4 for Z mount, to complete what would then be a stunning (slightly less) holy zoom trinity of F4s? Pretty please....?

Love This
For me there is nothing to dislike about this lens. The weight seems perfect and the image quality superb like all the Z lens I find just so sharp. Its mounted on my Z6 and I love the design and the auto focus is fast.I have to say that I looked for a while and Amazon are at present the best value for a new one .I did contemplate a used one but they seem to hold their value so well but here for me was and is the best price for this particular lensHighly recommended and this particular 14-30 F4 it has a more than excellent lens in its class

A fantastic lens for a Z6 or Z7
This 14-30mm lens is very compact and very light and is a perfect match for both the Z7 mirrorless camera body and the 24-70mm kit lens. There have been reports that some examples of this lens exhibit very poor/faulty image quality. I have taken several hundred images with this lens and have found no such problems. Extreme wide angle lenses frequently suffer from very severe distortion. This is, in fact, one of the sharpest lenses I have ever used with virtually no distortion. All in all a fantastic lens!

Nice lens, but mine under exposes on Auto.
I love the quality of the lens, and the clarity/sharpness of the photos. My only quibble is that the exposures are almost always too dark. I find that I cannot use Auto exposure mode with this lens, because it’s not possible to use exposure compensation in Auto mode. (I have 6 Nikon lenses, 4 of which are new F mount lenses, and none of the others under expose.) It may be a problem specific to my lens.NB. If you use this lens near the sea, a protective filter is essential. It’s a large diameter lens (filter size 82mm) and it seems to attract sea spray. I use a Hoya Pro1 Digital Protector and I’ve had to clean the filter after every visit to the beach.

Must have for a Z series photographer doing Landscapes
I paid £935 which is expensive bur below normal retail. Arrived 4 days early which is great. Works perfectly and is perfect for my needs. I have a 100mm filter system which attaches nicely to the 82mm thread. I considered the f2.8 but apart from the cost and reduced docal range it also has massive filter thread which won't work well with my gear meaning the expense would just keep going. Also this lense is light an collapsible. I doubt I will miss the extra stops that the 2.8 would give for landscaping as most of my photos will be off a tripod. The lens is great at focusing quickly and accurately and is super sharp. So for very impressed.

Fantastic best in class wide angle lens that exudes quality pictures.
Absolutely delighted to get this when on special for £800! I have packed away all my filter holders and other paraphernalia associated with long exposure photography. Great move by Nikon to enable the use of simple 82mm direct screw filters on this lens. You will not regret your purchase!
