I purchased this unit earlier in the year and placed it away for this winter. Since we just got hit with the first winter vortex of 2014 I was very excited to hook it up and begin heating my garage. Previously I had seen two videos on Youtube raving about how great the unit is and I was very excited to try mine out. Lets just say that for the first 10 minutes it worked like a charm. It heated up quickly and blew alot of heat. Boy was I excited. I did read the sticker at the top of the unit stating that the unit should not be left unattended and it was for commercial use only and to be aware of potential fire hazards. I took all appropriate cautions. Around 12 minutes into using the unit, a loud screaching noise came from the fan motor which immediately stopped working and the unit became scary hot. Good thing I did not leave it unattended or I am sure there would have been a fire! I am pretty upset right now but fortunately still have my Edenpure heater as a back up. I am also happy that I purchased the extended warranty. I would look elsewhere for another heater, this unit left me high and dry.........Grade: F - See notes below regarding updated comments.Update: Earlier this week I had the opportunity to speak with Mireya in Customer Support at NewAir. She was very helpful in guiding me in both the return process for this unit as well as sending out a replacement unit. I truly hope the new unit works better than the last one. While disappointed with my last unit, I must admit how happy I am with the excellent customer support I did in fact receive from Mireya. Had it not been for her, I probably would have just asked for my money back and purchased a competitor's unit elsewhere. Thanks Mireya, you do a great job!Second Update: I have now had my new replacement unit for almost one week and I am extremely satisfied with it. It heats up my garage instantly and suffers none of the quality control issues I had with my last one. I can only assume that my last one was defective and not representative of the rest of this product line. I can now say confidently that I would support purchasing this unit again and I am very happy with it. This unit does an excellent job of generating heat in either steady on mode or cycling on and off. It does get rather hot however when cycling as the fan stops and the body heats up. Play close attention to all factory stickers and do not leave unattended for long periods of time, in other words, treat it with respect and caution as you would any item that generates this kind of heat.

No issues keeping garage warm in cold Iowa winters :-)
I purchased this heater for my 400 sq/ft garage for use in the cold Iowa winters. The heater itself runs off of a 220 plug, so make sure you have one available if purchasing otherwise you would need to have a qualified electrician install. The heater works great, and has 0 issues keeping my work area warm. The thermostat seems to be sufficient and works as needed. The unit is quiet and doesn’t take up a ton of room. It puts out great airflow and I have no complaints. This is actually the second one I’ve purchased, the first one I accidentally broke the thermostats knob off so replaced with this newer updated version. I would recommend this to anyone who needs some heat!

Good garage heater, but no ON-OFF switch?
This heater works great for my 2 car garage workshop. I did add another fan to circulate air and keep the temperature even throughout the space. Without the additional fan, this heater would shutoff sometimes when the local temperature was a bit higher than the rest of the shop. It takes a couple of hours to heat up the garage on a cold day, but it maintains the temperature well after that.It did take a little fiddling around to figure out the temperature setting that I like best, since there are no numbers at all on the control dial. I found that a little over half way on the dial seems to give me a good working temperature, without wasting too much energy overheating the shop. The other thing that I'm not a fan of is that there is no On-Off switch. Even at the lowest temperature setting, the heater will kick on sometimes. The only way to really turn it off is to unplug it... which is exactly what the instructions say also. That is really annoying if you want to use this as a permanent installation in a shop environment. For now, I just leave it on the lowest setting, but I need to figure out a switch solution or maybe a relay that is integrated into my home automation system. 30 amp switches are not cheap either.I hung mine in the corner of my garage. It specifically says "for floor use only" in the directions, but I'm a rebel. I don't see why this would be an issue, other than that I need a ladder to turn it on and off. I used a couple of hanger hooks to hold the handle. I also used a small chain on the back (like what you hang a shop light with) to angle the heater down. Here are links to a couple of things that you might need:10 gauge romex (10/2 with ground) for 30 amp service... https://amzn.to/2veovDb30 amp receptacle (NEMA 6-30R)... https://amzn.to/2SUWzgF30 amp / 220v breaker - varies depending on your electrical box

Exquisite Heater, Very Powerful
We've been using residential heaters to heat our insulated garage in the winter with very little success. At full throttle, day and night, a 1500W 110V heater can raise the temperature from 20F to 40F.But this heater can go from 20F to 80F at just 75% power! A critical improvement for our heat sensitive equipment. Heating cost hasn't increased noticeably either. Also, the heater hasn't given us any issues in about three months of continuous usage. The one negative we might mention is the temperature control. We're not sure if there is a thermal sensor or if it works off a timer. If you're aiming for a specific temp, you won't be able to do that. But within a 5F range, it works superbly.
