Amazing pen in looks and performance
This is my first fountain pen I have used in years. THe only other pen I had was a Sheaffer pen that took the old skript cartridges. I loved that pen despite the horrible ink and the tendency to leak and bleed. Well I recently decided to start journaling and I wanted something special to jot down my thoughts and ideas. When I came across this pen I was in love with the photos. I figured at the low price it was worth a shot. My expectations were low as I know how the photos are always the "special" model and the real thing would never even come close. Boy was so wrong. The pen I received is better looking than the photo. The inlays have so much depth and personality. The black enameled barrel and silver trim just scream elegance. After picking the pen up for the first time I was amazed at how good it felt in the hand. I love a weighty wider pen (my work EDC is a bolt action brass ballpoint that weighs over almost 2 ounces). This pen has great weight (my scales battery is dead but I'm guessing it comes in at just over and ounce with the cap). While all this weight and beauty are well and good, unless the pen writes well it is for naught. I read a lot online on how to clean and prep a new pen. I followed the directions and cleaned it well. I had also purchased some Jinhao cartridges and some Parker bottled ink. I went with an Orange colored cartridge first. The cartridge snapped in easy and I was ready to go. After waiting 5 mins I tried to write to no avail. Try as I might I could not get any ink. After more research I tried pressing the tip down hard enough to split the ink channel apart slightly. The ink started to flow and after a few scribbles and skips a consistent flow was achieved. I wrote nearly a full page without a skip or blot. This pen writes as amazing as it looks. The tip nearly glides over the paper (very cheap notebook paper) and feels as smooth as a rollerball gel pen. After another 2 pages of writing I noticed that the ink flow has gotten a little wetter but not to the point where I'm getting bleeding or blots. I also realized that my cursive writing is MUCH neater than it ever has been. I have terrible handwriting but this pen does something to my writing that makes it almost neat. I actually used to hate writing cursive as it is always so hard for me to read my own writing. Now it is enjoyable and even my wife said my cursive is actually readable. I'm a total convert to the fountain pen and am on a search for an EDC for work (no way this beauty is going to work because we are pretty brutal on pens at work, hence the heavy duty brass pen I use now). I also need to find a fast dry ink that can write on masking tape as we jot a lot of quick notes on tape to label our parts. If your on the fence about this one, I will say that the weight, amazing looks, and fine nib combined with an excellent ink performance system really makes this pen a steal at twice the price. Just be sure to order some ink (either bottled or cartridges) so you can enjoy the writing experience.

Beautiful and Excellent Performer (Former Title: "Arrived Broken But Will Try Again")
Mine arrived packed well but broken, so I have initiated the return process. It was wrapped as tight as a cocoon, so I think it was a failure in the quality inspections along the way and not in the shipping. Having held the pen however, I realized that it's even more gorgeous in person than it is in the pictures, so I decided to try again and will purchase another one in the next few days. October Update: I did indeed complete a return on the first one, and then I re-ordered this pen about a month later. The second one came without incident. It's gorgeous and I have loaded it with Pelikan Edelstein Tanzanite from a Goulet Pens sampler vial. The return process was fast and convenient. I used a locker box at a local 7-Eleven and the process went smoothly. The new pen came wrapped similarly in bubble wrap. This one was unbroken and looks fabulous. The Paua shells are very very thin (almost showing the black background through in places), but the pen is coated with a thick lacquer of plastic so the shells shouldn't ever get damaged (unless the pen breaks, that is). The pen writes very well, and the Pelikan ink is VERY smooth with this pen. That's basically like all of my Jinhaos thus far. In fact, it writes like glass, and I think that might be credited to the ink (or combination of ink and pen; not sure). I'm not fond of the Tanzanite ink color because it's a dark blue; almost a drabby grey-blue. Good contrast on white paper, but the ink color is just not "me". But I'm impressed with the writing qualities of the Pelikan inks, so I'll try more of them until I find a color that I like. That's why samples are so wonderful; no need to commit to a whole bottle at a time! I'd actually give this pen a 4.5 Star review if I could. The thin shells being the only reason. Maybe that's just the personality of this particular pen. Other than that, I'm happy. I would recommend and I would buy it again, as long as the price was reasonable.

Balanced, smooth writing. Problem in fit/design?
I really like this pen. At first the fine point was a little too fine, but as I use it it is getting more to my liking. I love the design and shells. Very well balanced in my hand, a little heavier / solid but not too heavy in the hand, and smooth writing. The cap goes back on with a nice "click" - I know that it is probably sealed well and less likely to dry out in between uses. The cap does not fit completely on the back of the pen, it is too large to sit completely as it "should". As a result, I tend not to store it on the end when writing. It looks like it should seat completely (with the same nice "click") but it is too snug. The gap makes it look less polished / quality. Maybe that is intentional, not sure. Overall, this pen has a nice quality feel.

Gorgeous pen, very fluid ink flow. Converter works very smoothly. Easy to draw with, and experimenting with calligraphy. Feels firm and balanced when writing. Using fountain pens for decades, this is my first bent nib, and I’m impressed. Plus, nicely priced!

A caneta é ótima. Assim que você pega jeito, você consegue fazer traços de espessura diferentes como um pincel!
