The Wankel Rotary Engine: A History

On first glance it appears well written and should be a quick read if you go for it. But being an engineer already familiar with the high level operating concepts and history of the Wankel engine I was looking for something more in-depth, especially about the engineering and specific vehicles. I decided not to keep it. Here are the details:The historical background elements of this book look like decent reads. It spends a good number of pages on Wankel himself, NSU, Mazda, and Curtiss-Wright. On the other hand, the content about the cars and applications (especially in later chapters) are very high level overviews that run like short Wikipedia articles. If you are looking for detailed stories about the NSU Ro80, Mazda RX vehicles, rotary motorcycles, or specific applications, you won't find more than a couple of pages on each one. Not questioning any of the factual accuracy, but for $30 as of the time of my purchase, I didn't see enough value to keep it. I'd recommend this book to folks who are new to or unfamiliar Wankels. For those who are already in the know but absolutely have to read everything on the topic, the Kindle version will be a better value.

Interesting read. Hard to say exciting because it is a lot of history and technical information. But, it's pretty close. I recently wrote a paper on the Wankel and this was my best source of information.

Good for both the historically savvy and the mechanic savvy

I bought this book beacsuse I had just started working in a wanksl engine factory and I wanted to know the historical aspects of the engine and I found the book very comprihansive and full of excellent knowledge.It's very well written and the technical explrnasions are very easy to understand. To make along story short, I give the book two thumbs up!!!

If you are wandering about how a Wankel engine works, look no further. This book has excellent diagrams on the Wankel engine and the rich, interesting history behind the development of this piece of engineering. I'm using this book for a project in high school and it helps me tremendously.

This book is a fantastic resource for anyone into the man himself Felix Wankel,the rotary engine he created or combustion engines in general.Hard to put down when the cover is opened,a full concise history with loads of information well documented.RECOMMENDED TO ALL ROTORHEADS for their collection...

I love the rotary story. It is too bad that there was not more people embrassing it. It is really a better alternative than the standard piston engine. This is a nice book telling the story of the rotary.

I bought this for my brother, who has a Mazda RX8 and is interested in most things rotary. I was impressed with the content when I received the book from Amazon, and my brother has also given very positive feedback. The only negative was the flimsy cover, which wasn't ideal for a book intended as a gift.

Come da titolo, ho acquistato e letto questo ottimo libro sulla storia del motore Wankel. Consigliatissimo per gli appassionati per scoprire cosa vuol dire andare controcorrente in un mondo oramai obsoleto e poco propenso a rischiare per innovare.

This book is a great read very interesting I enjoyed it immensely and I would recommend it to anybody who loves machines.

Overpriced, poor quality paper and focuses on cars (Mazda).After a quick skim read it appears totally ignores Motorcycle manufacturers: DKW, Van Veen, Norton and Suzuki.Returned for refund from Amazon's excellent customer services.
