Needs Maps
Meh. Not enough detail. the associated antidotes accompanying each fort was nice. The photos are good but a drawing of the layout of the fort would have been useful. Also a map of the area could have helped to explain why the location was chosen.

Not exhaustive, but enough
When I purchased this book, I thought it would be a compendium of ALL the forts in Maine. It isn't, but the author makes that quite clear in his preface (which of course I failed to read). That being said, this is a fine piece of research, well written and highly informative . The forts chosen are, after all, the most significant. I'd buy it again and I certainly expect to reread it!

Excellent Info
Still looking for a list of people who worked on Fort Knox. Found reference to a William O'BRIEN in another book and would like to know if he is the same one listed on the Verona Census, I have. Very interesting info on Forts. Enjoyed the history and people who were involved.

A fresh look at an old topic.
A great book. It brings a fresh insite and personal note to an important portion of Maine history. I read this in a couple days, it is engaging.
