Firm yet soft
I love this pillow the buckwheat assist with keeping temperatures cool and the soft side keeps your head comfortable. I'm so glad that I purchased two of them

I think my ideal pillow
I like a firm pillow, otherwise I get a lot of neck and back pain, but the firm ones (actually all of them) compact down and get like a rock, and then my ear hurts (I am a side sleeper). I used these when I was in Japan and liked them. My wife tried to buy one from a hotel we stayed at and they wouldn't sell us it (stationed near Tokyo with the Air Force). It has a "bean side" and a "fluff side", so you can try either. I am trying it "bean" side up for now because I don't want to smash the fiber fluff. The bean side is surprisingly comfy, and it doesn't hurt my ears. The beans shift around a bit, so you can form it however you want. It is worth the money for me, I am happy. No neck or back pain in the morning.

Just like Japanese hotel pillows, but American-sized...
I never slept as well as I'd slept in Japan with pillows that were buckwheat on one side, traditional polyfill on the other... The perfect marriage of softness and support. Unfortunately, this pillow is way overstuffed, and unless you're a really big person - someone tall with broad shoulders - I think you're going to have a hard time with this as a side sleeper, and maybe even a back sleeper. It's just so tall, it strained my neck. This could be solved by adding a zipper allowing you to empty some of the buckwheat out till it compresses (called "polishing", at which point you add some buckwheat back in till you get the comfortable height again). But, there's no way to do that. So, either you have to sleep uncomfortably with it till you compress the buckwheat sufficiently that it's comfortable, or you switch to a 100% buckwheat, smaller Japanese-size pillow that you can take hulls out/add in. That's what I chose to do.Excellent quality, well made and a true replica of the Japanese style, but at 2x the size, just not the one for me.

Way too tall and firm
This pillow is way too thick for average build people. I am a male at 5'11". Unlike most buckwheat pillows, you cannot remove excess buckwheat to reduce firmness or height. Sent it back after 2 nights and achey neck.

Nice quality. More on the heavy / full side.
I grew up sleeping with buckwheat pillow. This one has a nice quality, but definitely feels very densely packed and ‘full’ than a lot of the pillow I've used. It’s the polyester part. I got used to it after a day or so, but my boyfriend who never used buckwheat pillow before kept having neck pains after sleeping with it...

Best firmer lower loft pillow ever!
I had never even heard of a half buckwheat half polyester pillow until I stayed with a friend who had one. I love the support this pillow gives me. I could never find a consistent support in a down and feather pillow or a polyester pillow. This pillow has some weight to it which is what I like too. Finally a lower loft firm pillow that isn't too soft!

Filling leaked
After a few weeks use and not even daily use the filling leaked. Plus I found it too heavy Too expensive.

Just like the Japanese hotel pillows
If you're looking for a half buckwheat, half down pillow, this one is exactly as expected.
