The purple worm thing is too heavy, bring back the broken crayon with the wire
I bought this because the broken crayon one now only comes with a string and the "crayon" part has also changed. My cat's last wand had the wire break on it like they are so apt to do when your cat drags the thing around your house like its its baby all day. So I took the purple thing off this one and put his broken crayon on it. He is in love again.

BEST $15 ever spent!!! Helped me tame a feral cat!! But has now changed!!
The media could not be loaded. UPDATE 4-15-21: The wire finally broke, so I reordered this toy. It is totally different than pictured, as shown in another reviewer's photos!! The newer wand is much stronger, so that's a good thing. There's a thick cord instead of the wire, which changes the way it swings/moves when we're playing. It's okay, but the cord is a bit shorter & I liked the wire far better. The new worm? TERRIBLE!!! It's no longer rubber (which my cat likes to chew for a few seconds while we're playing, when she catches it) -- it's plastic!!! Thank goodness I kept the old rubber worm!!! I will NOT be reordering this toy, given the changes they've made. Disappointing. I'll be buying wire and clamps, & making my own, when this one breaks.About a year ago, I trapped a feral mama cat & rescued her & her four 4 wk old kittens. Fostered the kittens, with their young mama, for a few months, then they went with a rescue transport to find new homes. I decided to keep mama indoors, even though she was feral & wouldn't let me touch her.She bonded with my 2 y.o. rescue, hanging out with him & play fighting with him. Slowly, she got used to being around me, but still wouldn't let me touch her.I bought this toy, & right off the bat she went CRAZY over it!!! My other kitties aren't interested in it, but Molly LOVES it, as you can see from the video (if I uploaded it correctly)!I started petting & scratching her back whenever she'd jump on the cat pedestal to grab the worm. Then I started scratching her head, & she was enjoying it & purring!!! Now, a month later, she comes to me wanting me to play with her with this toy!! I keep it in a closed off room, so she won't knock things down trying to get to it. Anytime I come out of that room, she's sitting there staring at me with eager eyes! Also, when I get home from work, she & her buddy both come to meet me, then they BOTH slow down for me to scratch their backs. EVEN MOLLY the formerly feral cat!!THANK YOU Jackson Galaxy, for making such a GREAT toy for the "hunter" type cat such as the one I rescued!!! It has REVOLUTIONIZED our relationship for the good!!!!

Meh
The only reason this gets three stars is for the worm itself. It's very durable and made out of a nice, springy material that should be nice to chew. I took it off and hooked it onto the bird version of this toy, which is much sturdier. (though the hook is rigid plastic and a bit too small but it stays so I'm not complaining)The handle is flimsy and cheap plastic and the string in metal wire. I do not feel safe using it with my kitten. Just glad I had an alternative.

Brings out the predator in my kitten
This is my kittens "adult" cat toy: all the other ones are babyish in his opinion. I swear this is exactly what he would tell you if he could, in an impudent teenager voice. He loves the weight of it, the articulated wiggling action and the sounds it makes as it skitters across the floors and whatever else I run it over or land it on. Every once in awhile he proudly saunters across the floor, as he carries his caught "Prey" dangling from his mouth, taking me for a little walk. This is so adorable, I can not even tell you! I originally bought this toy years ago and my other two cats were not all that impressed with it, but it did get some play time. Now the original toy has been repaired 4 times, with at least one more coming in the near future, but for the joy it brings my kitten, it is sooo worth it! Could it be a little more sturdy; yes. I reattached the wire to the original wand a couple times, and then had to reattach the worm to the wire (the little plastic ring broke off), and replaced the wand that finally broke with a heavier duty extending magnet wand. I bought a new one, but will keep the old one around and keep figuring out new ways to improve it. Next is upping my repairs from "just sufficing" to actually getting some metal crimp tubes to really fix up the wires good. Is it worth it? YES: The WORM is everything! Would I go to the ends of the earth for my kitten? quite possibly, so you better believe figuring out how to keep him happy and with his worm in good working order is a sure thing!

Perfect for my cat who wasn't interested in toys
So first I'll review the product itself. The want being metal with a metal cord makes it really durable. the very end of the tip bent a little bit when I left it open for our cats to drag around and accidentally stepped of it but I was able to bend it back easily. My cats had a nasty habit of chewing the cheaper ones in half and I was worried they were going to swallow the fibers. No problem with this one! The cord being metal also doesn't have risk of being chewed either. One of my kitties loves to play but the other one is a bit chunky with health problems so he had a hard time playing. As soon as I pick this fancy up he starts going crazy and meowing, would play for hours if I had the energy to run around with him. This got my uninterested little guy totally into attack mode it's so much fun seeing him play. I would recommend this to everyone, it looks a little weird but it's much better! Jackson Galaxy knows what cats want

Breaks Easily - 2 broke within 1 month
I got 2 of these and they both broke. The first one that boke, I ordered a replacement. The second one that broke (the replacement) I am requesting a refund. The wand can't stand up to anything more than a light breeze tugging on it before the string breaks away from the plastic holder.Pros: Telescoping is really nice. It makes the device easy to fit into your pocket so you can put it away without it bumping into everything. The telescoping rod has a bend to it. I'm sure that's from the play with my cat, but I kind of expected the metal parts to hold up better and not have a noticeable bend after a few play sessions.Cons: The string that connects the toy to the rod broke, twice. Right where the string meets the plastic, the string is like, inserted into the plastic. That connection will break after a few weeks of play.
