Teaching Classical Ballet

I really enjoyed this book. There is a lot of good information in it. Highly recommend to serious ballet teachers. This book has a lot of information that other pedagogical books don't, such as how to construct/design safe dance floors and barres. I appreciated the details it gave and how every little detail matters.

I’m mind blown by the exquisite writing and details given in every aspect of becoming a classical dance educator given by Mr. White. He is discerning with many problems encountered in today’s classical dance education. This is not just for teachers. I highly recommend every student regardless his / her levels reads this book thoroughly. There are so many guiding principles in this art that every serious student should know and be always conscious about during training. It will prepare many well before they embark on this arduous yet highly joyful and fulfilling journey of becoming a classical dancer.

A friend of mine, who i consider a fantastic ballet teacher, trained under Mr. White. I bought this book because i have always been impressed with my friend's abilities as a dancer and a teacher. Mr. White is so inspiring, it makes me a little depressed! If every ballet teacher were more like him, the ballet world would be a much happier place. I love his advice to new teachers that they attach themselves to a "Master Teacher." My own sad experience as a dancer and teacher included far too many bad examples, and i never had a true long-term mentor. While this book itself is not a perfect substitute for a live mentor, it comes very close and i found it quite helpful.

This is a great book for both teachers and students who want to know more about the Vagonova school. It reads like a manual and it a great book to have around.
