Never buying yogurt from the store again!
I chose this one since it was the perfect size for me since I'm single. The instructions say to use 1/2 c plain yogurt or starter, 4 cups of milk, and 1/4c to 1/2 c instant non fat dry milk powder. I didn't do that. First off, the 4 cups of milk is way too much and will not fit in the glass containers.I used 3 cups of organic, ultra pasteurized(UHT) milk and about 1 1/2 Tbsp of Fage 2% plain Greek yogurt. If you use UHT milk you don't have to parboil. I wasn't thrilled about using nonfat dry milk so I left that out. Came out perfect for my tastes. I pulled out two at about 7 hours and the other 2 after about 15 hours. I didn't notice a huge difference in tartness but the consistency for the ones that stayed in longer was a tiny bit thicker. I mostly use yogurt for smoothies so I don't need it to be very thick. The consistency reminds me of yogurt you can get in Europe or Asia. Next time I may try using a full fat, organic Greek yogurt as a starter and see how it comes out. I also saw a recipe that uses 2 c milk and only 2 tsps of yogurt as a starter. I just got this yesterday so I'm still in the testing stages but I totally love it so far and would recommend this to anyone!

disappoint
By the first glance I know the product box has been opened before and was resealed. Opened the box, found the base plastic is broken, a hole on the base, a small plastic piece at the broken place is missing. I checked the entire product box and inside the product, did NOT find the missing plastic piece. This means the broken was NOT happen during shipping. In another word, the product box was resealed after the piece was broken!!! Wonder how can a broken piece be mailed out to a customer?? Plug in, does not work!! Unhappy on this purchase!

Be Aware
The plastic cover for the machine, as well as the caps for the jars, give off an odor which permeates the yogurt. You might not notice the odor if you flavor it with fruit or jams but it is there. I fixed the problem by not using the covers for either the machine or the jars. I use a Corning-ware glass cover for the machine and nothing for the jars. I wrote to the company and they said no one has ever complained about it. I suggested they simply smell their plastic lids - they'll understand the problem. Having said that - the machine makes wonderful yogurt NOW; creamy, smooth, it is great and if you want to know what is in your yogurt - you'll know when you make it yourself. You control the milk and the flavors, if any, that you wish to add. So I give it 1 star as delivered and 5 stars as modified by me.

perfect (after a few tweaks .)
I use a round stainless steel container with lid which holds 2 cups(around 475ml) of milk instead of the individual glass containers that comes with the yogurt maker(did not want hot plastic lids or the extra work of individual containers). I've tried 1% and 2% milk and I get perfect yogurt each time .I boil the milk in the microwave and when it is lukewarm i add the starter (1 tablespoon from the previous batch). My first starter was store bought organic yogurt .I keep it in the yogurt maker for around 6-8hours (depending on when i remember to take it out).Initially my container used to become too hot (probably because it is metal and not glass) and I did not get good yogurt in my first and second trial . I kept a paper towel and a small flat cork hot pad (or whatever it is called) between the container and the base and now even though the container gets hot (though probably less than earlier) , the yogurt is perfect .Also It is cute ,occupies very little counter space and is very reasonably priced considering that it yields almost half liter of yogurt at a single go.

Great buy
This is definitely a great buy. I got it last week and made yogurt over the weekend. It was so nice and easy. The little jars are so so cute :).We are two of us. But I think this is good for a family of 3-4 also! Each cup holds a little over half a cup yogurt. I kept it ON for 8 hours and the yogurt came out exactly like store bought one, I used non-fat milk but added a little extra dry milk.Updated review after a few years:Product is very cute and nice and I used it only 2 times I think, this is one of those things that you will buy and fill up teh kitchen and will hardly ever use because buying yogurt is much easier. Don't waste your money!

great little yogurt maker for one person
I chose this one because it was small and the price was just right. It makes perfect yogurt for me every time. For those who complain about the plastic caps on the jars making the yogurt smell bad, you are not supposed to process the yogurt with the caps on; they are for when the yogurt is done and you put it in the refrigerator to cool, not for cooking the yogurt. I am on the SCD diet and need to process the yogurt for 24 hrs to eliminate all lactose and this product works great for that. Since there is no timer it stays on until I turn it off. The yogurt comes out creamy and delicious every time. I don't use the powdered milk only regular whole milk or sometimes half and half if I want a thicker, richer texture and taste. Also, whole milk yogurt without additives makes a great starter.

Small serving sized jars
The 4 yogurt jars are small, and do not hold one quart of milk. Either adjust your quantities, or place the excess milk into another glass container, to make later. I did not have milk solids to put into the recipe. However I will try using it. I just used non fat milk. Whey formed in each jar. It can be poured off. The process was messy for me. I would prefer the vintage Salton yogurt maker with full size cups, however it costs much more.
