5 Star amplified antenna
I recently purchased this 5 star antenna model. My old antenna was used for 2 1/2 years before the rotor stopped working. This 5 Star antenna model generally gets good reviews online and has good recommendations as a purchase choice. The assembly of this TV antenna is easy. It does not take much time to put together. When I put the antenna together I did not install the reflectors at the very back of the antenna correctly. The reflector assembly was installed pointing outwards instead of pointing inwards. Upon the initial installation the antenna was not working well. Reception was rather poor. After I reversed the reflectors in back the antenna was working much better. On my antenna I have aluminum foil covering the two large VHF receive elements that stick out 12 inches from the sides of the antenna.I live in a valley in the hills above Palm Springs, California. I pick up stations from the low desert that are not line of sight. There are only a few RF hotspots on my property that pick up stations from the low desert. One spot is right next to my home. Most people depend on the local TV repeater in town for their free TV reception. This antenna can pick up TV stations from two directions which is cool. Usually I don't have to play around with the rotation controls. This antenna is not cheap. There are better bargains on Amazon. I don't know if these lower cost antenna models will outperform this 5 Star TV antenna, probably not. This antenna is easy to put together and the amplification of received signals is more than acceptable for the fringe reception area that I live in. The overall construction of this antenna is good. The antenna design is well thought out and it will probably last quite a while in an outdoor installation location.

Save a fortune over satellite and cable. I have. One year and still happy.
WOW. That's a one word review. The picture quality, ease of setup and use is great. The picture is HD Digital, perfect. The channels are all FREE. I live in the true northern California. That is, about 180 miles North of San Francisco on Interstate 5.Depending on which direction I point this motorized antenna. I get from 25-75 channels.I point North I get ALL networks plus many other channels. I point East about the same 25-40 channels. All major networks plus others. If I point to S.F. I get about 75 stations. The majors,ABC,CBS,NBC,FOX,CW,PBS. I also get ones in several languages.I purchased this antenna for about $72. One time purchase. I used scrap pipe to mount myself.Like I said it is motorized so you need to know which way to point it. Towns larger than my 13,000 population one, are the best choice to point at.If you live in a large city. Let's pick on S.F. I have read where you can just put in attic or crawl space and do not need to mount.I tested mine with it on my bed and got about 12 channels. The biggest thing is, I did this to stop paying $140 a month to Directv . I have saved $1700 so far. You don't miss the 200 plus channels because most people only watch about 6, counting networks.Worth the money even if you only use in your garage, shop, kids tree house etc.Break free of the Pay every month tv.Thank you.

Replaced cables, working great
Assembly is easy as pie. Basically need the directions to make sure you have everything turned in the right direction. Ten to fifteen minutes tops. I'm about 45 miles from the nearest city and maybe 60 from the bigger metro area. The television stations are between me and them. I actually live on a little hill, so I am about 300 feet higher. than most people in the area. All I could manage was a very weak signal from one station about 45 miles away. It would cycle in and out from 25% to 100% but never steady enough to lock in. I'm already at 30 feet. That's way over the edge of the roof and we get pretty strong wind gusts from time to time. Tomorrow I'll see if it survives a southern thunderstorms with 75 mph winds. Last time they took out several trees and snapped my flag pole in half. Couldn't get anything the first time. So I replaced all the cables running into my house. Now I get about 26 digital stations, which are about 60 miles away. Everything else is 100+.

Disappointed in quality
I bought this antenna to install in my attic getting ready to "cut the cord" from cable. I found several manufacture issues common with made in China products:(1) threads on U bolt were not cut clean so the nuts wouldn't screw on all the way to tighten it to the mast. I made a replacement out of some thread rod I had.(2 ) The button on the remote control continually stuck when pushing it. I was able to free it up by working with it and a little silicon lube (I probably won't use the remote once setup anyway).Issues which are caused by a lack of quality control. The light weight construction of the antenna would never survive the wind and ice of a typical winner where I live. Because I am mounting it in my attic it will be fine though. The rotor is ok for my needs to adjust it once and leave it set but if you lived in an area where it needed to rotate to point to different stations, not having an indicator to show the direction it is pointing and not being able to turn the direction needed would be an issue. It does seem to work as expected for what I need after fixing the issues I had.UPDATE: A couple of days later I noticed the red power light on the control module was no longer lighted but it still seemed to work. I called customer service and after a short explanation of the problem they agreed to send me a replacement control modular. I received it a few days later, however the input connector was broken off. again I call customer service explained the damage I found on the unit. They asked me to email a picture which I did and couple of days later I received another replacement. This time it worked fine. Very good customer service but issues with over all quality.UPDATE AGAINThe amplifier failed again 2 months out of warranty. Had to pay to get a replacement mailed. Fixed the problem but seems to me a quality control issue. Thinking of replacing with a different antenna. Too many problems.
