Another Excellent Product from Lenovo
Overall I'm very pleased. Officially my rating is probably 4.5/5 stars due to a couple of annoying features but these are ultimately minor.Hardware:A little bit bigger than my last Lenovo netbook, but about half the thickness and a little less blocky. The whole thing feels sturdy, which I've come to expect from Lenovo. It is slightly heavier than the netbook. The hinges are sturdy and will hold at whatever angle I try. Screen is very nice and slick, but it gets dirty easily. I have noticed the touchscreen has some issues clicking buttons in Firefox but that could be my unpracticed fingers. I don't notice really any bounce or shaking when scrolling on the screen as some reviews online had mentioned. Touchpad is kind of annoying. Sometimes it's hypersensitive, and other times it doesn't pick up on what I'm trying to do. Sometimes I go to move the cursor and instead the right sidebar pops out and the date/time in the lower lefthand corner. Decent battery life (5-6 hours) and doesn't appear to heat up all that much.Software:This is my first run with Windows in quite a few years, I've been using Linux on my previous netbook. 8.1 is neat, though I'm finding the start screen side a little limited. It switches between desktop and start screen mode flawlessly, though, and the latter can be fully stripped down and made to only have the things I use most frequently (Firefox, OpenOffice, Kindle--I really like that it came with Kindle already on it). The apps store is a little limited and I spent a good 90 minutes uninstalling about half the stuff it came with. Some of the programs are redundant (multiple camera programs, for instance). The screen rotates when in tablet mode so you can put it on its side and read. I am having trouble with the lefthand panel on the start screen in tablet mode. Other than closing unused programs (which I can't figure out how to do except right click with the mouse) I'm still not sure what the point of it is and can't figure out how to turn it off. The placement of other buttons on the screen is also a little counterintuitive and takes a bit of time to learn. Both Lenovos I have are factory refurbished and I'm overall quite pleased. My IdeaPad s10 gave me almost 5 years of service. The only reason I got a new one is because I dropped the other one down a flight of stairs and I can't really bring a computer into a professional environment that's being held together by ducttape. (It runs fine, if that says anything about Lenovo's durability.) Looking forward to another nice long stretch with this one. :)

Terrible!
This has turned out to be a terrible laptop. We have had nothing but problems since we purchased it in Sept. '14. To name a few, the battery won't hold a charge, the track pad doesn't work correctly and the screen brightness didn't work. Within the first 3 months, we had to call tech support and they had to reload software and make other adjustments that did not fix the battery drain issue. After charging overnight, my child will turn it on only to find that it didn't charge or he'll get to class with what appears to be a full charge and within a minute it will drop to zero. We have called tech support numerous times and the only solution now is to create a service order and send in the laptop for repair. While they say they will go as far as rebuilding the laptop (replace the motherboard, etc) this option is not feasible until school ends as my middle school child is required to have a laptop at school. At least it will still be under warranty at the end of the school year but I can't tell you what a hassle it's been to deal with this and if the warranty expiration date was during the school year, we would have no choice but to send it off and leave my child without a laptop. His classmates with the same Lenovo are also unhappy with their choice as well. This should have been a great option for a first laptop for a 6th grader and we regret not spending more for a more reliable product. Lenovo also had an incorrect warranty expiration date so I had to email our Amazon purchase receipt--another hassle. Nothing but problems and disappointment.

Good basic computer - small & sleek, with minor design flaws
So far, so good. My only gripe is that the speakers are on the bottom! This means that if I'm not using headphones, the sound is muffled. That's pretty poor design if you ask me. Otherwise, definitely worth the price! Great size, small and sleek. Keyboard is a little cramped, but that would be the case for any computer this size. Also, I wish the keyboard lit up.Windows 8, once you get used to it (which I had for work), isn't that bad to navigate. This computer is fast, and so far has been treating me well. Battery life is good, graphics look good.

Helpdesk engineer's review
I am a tier 3 IT helpdesk engineer, so feel free to take this with at least some credibility. A lot of reviews complain about Windows updates hanging, or other operating system issues. Off the bat, I need to remind everyone that Windows 8 is neither Lenovo's fault, nor problem. Now, on to the review.Where I wouldn't necessarily recommend this for heavy duty use (e.g. video editing, multi-remote session log in, etc), this is probably the greatest laptop for home use I have used in...well as long as I can remember. The only con is that you can't upgrade the RAM (it's soldered onto the motherboard and capped at 4 GB). It is very quick and runs clean. My favorite feature is stand/tablet mode. If you fold the keyboard about 3/4 of the way back, it works as a stand and the touch screen goes into effect, activating "stand mode". If you fold the keyboard 100% of the way back, it goes into "tablet mode". The touch screen is incredibly accurate. I don't know if this is what they were going for, but the laptop looks and feels a lot like a mac, in terms of physically/keyboard feel. It weighs just under 5 lbs, so it feels like nothing. The battery holds a solid 5 hour charge (tested this myself, including high usage and video streaming). And finally, the price. I got mine for just under $500, all said and done, and expedited shipping. This is an absolute steal for even $700, let alone $500. I highly recommend this to anyone that needs a home laptop.
