buy this if you have the original X
this thing gets mixed reviews. but it is what it is. which is great. the included instructions are vague.but here is what it is: it's a passive battery case. it does three things: put the case on...1 placed on a wireless charger it charges the phone first then the case2 plug in the case it charges the phone first then the charger3 plug in the phone to charge it does nothinghere's where it gets interesting1 it doesn't charge the phone unless you tell it to by holding down the button on the back for three seconds then it will charge the phone until it can't. about 25% in my experience.2 you can use this as a back up emergency pack and never use it unless you have to. if you put it on a wireless charger it passes the charge to the phone first then the pack. but you HAVE to push the button on the back for three seconds for it to charge your phone.this works differently than you'd expect. but the built quality is great.i did get an error on my charging pad and hot charge once so since then i just plug in the case with a usb-C and it acts like a wireless charging pad to charge my phone and then charges itself once the phone id 100%.all in all, it's a pretty amazing thing for $11-13. bad reviews are from people who can't figure it out.

Great battery case for iPhone
I bought this for my son's phone. He has an older phone because he's 13 and I am pretty sure he will break it soon. However, the Mophie has protected the phone, been a good battery backup for him, and it charges the phone and the battery when you plug it in. It fits really well, you can get to all the buttons, and it really doesn't add all that much weight to the phone. Very affordable given it as an older model.

Great in theory -- Poor in charging
Purchased this for my XS as the battery life has been dwindling for the past year or so. Great price for a nice hard case -- the case itself felt nice and smooth with not too much heft to it.However, as someone who is always on their phone for both work and leisure (emails, web surfing, streaming) I soon found that the case's battery did not even charge my phone while it was in use.Rather, the phone got extremely hot from the charging while in use... and my battery didn't move up *or* down in the slightest. The phone would give the charging 'ping' and show it was charging, but the battery just wasn't giving enough charging power to get over the hump.Even while locked and stationary charging, the phone would only charge minimally--at most I think I only ever saw a 10-15% charge on a full phone case charge. This essentially rendered the case useless in my eyes (why carry around the added bulk and weight of a battery pack if it couldn't even adequately charge my phone?)First battery case -- and although disappointed, the price really was worth a shot -- and I will likely try another battery case in the future, though likely a different size battery with more charging power.

Not quite enough power
Pros: I bought two of these and they very easy to switch, much more so than similar products I’ve had in the past for other phone models. Wireless charging option is great. Phones lightning port is free for accessories. Slim design, barely changes the weight, width, or height, only thickness.Cons: power gets consumed quickly. Got two so I could swap mid-day but often have to do that multiple times per day. Which was not the case for other brands for previous phone models.

When using my iPhone it overheats
My iPhone overheats when used with just this device being on it when it is hot out. My iPhone becomes almost non responsive. I never had this issue with my Otterbox. Fortunately it’s easy enough to take the phone out of the case and let it cool off. My guess is the battery in the case is trapping heat inside the case. The battery is enough to get a little bit more power. If you are using the phone while it’s charging from the case, your battery level won’t raise or not that much and it will appear that the case is not charging your battery the way it should be. Your battery may even drop while using the phone despite having the case charging due to the slow rate of charge from Qi Wireless charging. Using the USBC in the case to charge your phone is just as slow even though it is charging your phone before the case it is still using the Qi wireless to charge your phone.

Perfect Wireless Battery Case
This case for the price is a can’t pass if you are looking for a wireless, Apple CarPlay and Wallet approved battery case. It’s not too thick, but does add some weight to the phone. It also can be charge wirelessly or through a wire (USB C), and will only wirelessly charge your iPhone X/XS.It’s a perfect fit for my iPhone XS, has a rubbery like feel on the outside, and protects the outside of my phone pretty well (the front has a slight raised edge but I’d recommend a glass or screen protector in case). For those reviews that complain that is missing parts, or a charging pad and adapter - it specifically mentions in the manual that is OPTIONAL AND NOT INCLUDED. Also note that this case CANNOT get wet, if so you basically will have a heavy paperweight attached to your phone. As far as charging strength and life, so far mine charges my phone at a steady rate (appears to be around 5watts vs the higher rate and iPhone XS can accept). Not using my phone while it charges can net me around 50%+ of battery replacement, whereas using your phone can vary from 20% to higher depending on whatever you are doing at the time.

Good only for 30-40% charge. Warm up because of inefficient wireless charging
The case look nice and sturdy, fits very good but however it fails to do it's job! CHARGING. It has 2000mAh capacity which should enough to charge at least 80% battery from full drain of an iPhone X but because of that inefficient wireless charging I only got 30-40% extra juice and most of energy got wasted as heat. Yes, it feels warm when charging and or getting charged. Warm enough that I can't feel comfortable put in my jeans pocket in this California summer. It's been a week of use and I don't think it's worth to add more weight just for 30% extra battery life. Returning next week when I return home.
