Beautiful, colorful, inspiring design
Wow – what a fantastic book. Of her three, this one is by far my favorite. When I ordered it, I thought perhaps I would find the book too focused on her hotels, or feel like it was too much of an attempt to sell her products. While her hotels and products are certainly included, above all else, this book showcases the incredible talent the designer has. In the introduction, she describes the focus of the book is to weave together dynamic, diverse, and creative design, and she has exceled at this. The rooms are filled with lots of incredible details, and the combining of colors is beautiful. Plenty to inspire us as we look for ways to improve our own décor. There are 9 chapters, each featuring a specific property or idea:• A room of One’s Own: a London townhouse• Making an Entrance: The public spaces in The Whitby Hotel in Manhattan• Manhattan Penthouse: The penthouse in The Whitby Hotel (looks like a beautifully decorated home)• Creating a Collection: collaboration with the Andrew Martin design emporium• Beach Bar: The Beach Bar at Sandy Lane Resort in Barbados• Occasion Dressing: Entertaining spaces in Kit’s properties, including The Whitby and Soho Hotels• Pied A Terre: a small flat in Chelsea, London• Gardens: garden spaces and the adjoining rooms• Sleeping Around: bedrooms / hotel roomsEach chapter starts with a one page introduction and includes a recipe from one of her projects at the end. Most chapters also include one of her design alliances. These include Baskets of Britain, Wedgewood, Turnell & Gigon, Melissa White, Paul Smith, Fine Work Cell, and Wilton Carpets. While the book does feature many public spaces, I think that the ideas presented would easily translate into home design. I found myself fascinated in every chapter, and frequently searching on the internet for the artists she has mentioned throughout the book. (She has some fantastic animal plates that have been box-framed – they show up in a couple of chapters. I would have loved to know more about them.) The photography is stellar as well. This is a fantastic and beautiful book!

Unique, inspirational, and informative
I absolutely love Kit Kemp’s design style. This book is my favorite of her three. You really get a sense of how she pulls a scheme together through her explanations, particularly as she explains how artwork, textiles, and historical references start her process. She even shares a private home and her private shepherd’s hut escape.

Freedom to be unafraid of color and fabric!
It wasn't until I ran across Kit Kemp that I had the courage to incorporate color and pattern into my decor. This book has been inspirational and affirming to take risks and follow your heart! It is accomplished by the magnificent photos and not in the words talking through the thought process. Most of the writing is superficial and provides little insight into her process- though are tid bits I have found helpful. This is a book I continue to carefully study and think about what it is in each of the pages that speaks to me so that I can refine my own home. I ordered Kit's earlier book and like it even more! Her work is timeless!

Kit Kemp is the best of the best
Kit Kemp is adding so much goodness to this world in her creative, colorful, expansive design style. I have each of her three books, and her latest, Design Thread, is one of the finest of its type. I can see the hand’s-on style from beginning to end of a project. How does one person find so much energy to create on this level? The best part is how she finds special artisans to paint, and embroider, and weave the most amazing pieces. The program that she cultivated, Fine Cell Work, is beyond remarkable. What a special human being. Bravo.

Lovely use of color and pattern
Beautiful photography. Love this designer’s use of color, pattern, and texture. Nice break from the boring neutrals designers usually give us.

Weakest of the 3 books
I feel Kit kemp is running out of material when she includes recipes from some of her hotels. Also her use of textiles in this book seemed more traditional. Of the 3 books I found 'Every Room Tells A Story' the most inspirational.

design thread knits together a beautiful book
wonderful illustrations. inspiring. really pleased that this book is not just pretty photos but has a generous democratic spirit. Kit shared paint colours and sources. I may never be able to afford to stay in one of her fabulous hotels but with her books we can bring a little bit of them home without feeling we live in a hotel. Her text and illustrations prove that her hotels are not like hotels, as after all, who wants to live in a hotel ? Rather, home ( of our dreams, that is ) away from home xxx

This is the third Kit Kemp book & they all have been a joy to read. Not always my taste but very inspirational imagery, there is always something to spark a design idea... I look forward to the next.
