Might work on some laptops, but mounting system has problems.
The unit is USB powered, so it can get max input power of 2.5 Watt, leaving it a bit anemic at moving air. But it probably moves enough air to give some cooling to older laptops. I couldn't get the mounting system to work, but when I held the unit in place with my hand, it dropped the temp about 1 degree C.I ran it on a powerful, heat-producing laptop with cpu and graphics chip on maximum load. I observed the internal fan speed, temp, and cpu throttling state. The only thing that changed was the temp, by a tiny bit.Like I said before, if the user can get the mount to work, and on an older laptop, it would probably work pretty well. But even gorilla tape won't stick to the silicone boots used to seal the fan on the laptop.The unit is packged with a mounting plate that fits on the bottom of the laptop. In my case it covers part of the air intake for the laptop, making it work against cooling! I might try taking the rubber boot off, and just use adhesive tape to mount it.The build quality looks and feels above average for the price, but not top quality. There is no way to mount this fan so it can be easily removed and put back again; a seemingly essential feature for a laptop accessory.I really wanted this product to work for me. I'll update if I find a way.

Does what it’s meant to
I recently upgraded my processor and since then my machine has been an oven. Replaced the thermal paste which made a 1 degree difference. I didn’t think getting a new fan would do enough so I got this guy. It most definitely works. With this on, I see a 10-12 degree difference in idle temps and a 5-7 degree difference when under heavy load. I wish it was a little quieter but that’s to be expected. It does have the potential to wear out your internal fan whose bearings move noticeably louder than before.My biggest problem with this device is that it can’t be used if your machine isn’t on a flat surface. Even then, you could quite easily end up moving the machine and “breaking the seal” that the end creates. Good product, works well, it just needs a better mounting system.

This thing saved my old laptop. 2 years later and it's still awesome.
I got this external vac fan for my laptop about 2 years ago now. The internal fan had died, so this little vac cooler was literally the only thing regulating temperature beyond heat sinks. It worked like a charm! Not only did it work incredibly well but I kept it going with my new laptop just in case. It has been on for almost 2 years straight, I rarely turn it off. It feel like it might maybe be blowing a little slower than when it was new but it's caked in dust from 2 years of neglect and heavy use so that's probably my own fault. I'm truly impressed with this thing. Excellent product. Excellent value. It even came with different sized rubber guards to help fit different size laptops. Great product!

Seems to help
I liked the quick order response. Got the product in good time. Seems to help pull the heat from my processor and cool my laptop. Mounting could be a little better. I used the smallest blue "connector" but there could actually be a smaller one. One thing that could definitely be improved is to have the User Instructions in English! I was able to figure it out based on my experience with assembly from my former job.

Gamers beware more of a casual use fan!
The media could not be loaded. This despite the mounting piece to be a bit small would be good if your a average user but hard core gamers should not consider this an option i have had it since may 20th and its September 12. The fan still works but now makes a loud annoying sounds when running. So all in all for a hardcore gamer this is the sound of imminent death. I dont even use it now because of the sound. It cools ok but like i said its more for like a casual use not a hardcore gamer.

Cómo se coloca?
Yo lo coloqué como viene en la fotografía pero no estoy segura. No trae instrucciones y ya probé colocar el inserto de color azul en forma inversa pero el aire frío no entra bien. Por eso lo coloqué con la parte más ancha hacia arriba. El aire realmente sale tibio por la parte posterior, por lo que sé que funciona como se debe!!

I have a Dell Pavilion DV7 which is well known for fan failure. This little gem saved me from tearing into a laptop to replace the fan. I was running near 100 degree C without the fan which dropped the temp to below 70. Impressive. Variable speed control makes this quiet fan even quieter. Highly recommended.

Avoid purchasing this.
Item arrived with no English instructions. UBS jack cord was too short to reach fan. Product is overpriced even if it was functional.
