Traveling like a big shot for a small price!
This bag is a brute! I staged some clothes and dress shoes in here to see how it feels and let me tell you it is very well made! Another review stated that the metal on top of the bag seemed flimsy, but i do not see it to be a problem, maybe because i do not travel a tremendous amount or because I take care of my things but they seem sturdy enough to withstand overhead stowage and walking the bridges of Venice! I took it to a Leathershop to have them "stamp" my initials on there and though the owner of the shop said it'd be too thin, he did find an area that has overlapping leather where he was able to stamp what i wanted on the back side of the lower compartment. I cannot wait to put some miles on this baby! It is a beaut, inside and out and still very masculine to boot!

Looks great! Smells...not as great.
Great bag overall. Love the look and the style of the bag. The striped liner is a nice touch. There is definitely an odd and persistent smell inside the bag that has been tough to get rid of. I do wish the hardware (zippers, etc.) were a little higher quality. Still feel like it was a great purchase for the price paid.

Nice, but cheap strap design...
Second Floto bag we own, love the bags, but this one seems to be a bad design. After less than two months of use grommet holding the strap in broke. Otherwise I would rate it higher. Now I have to waste time replacing it. Not was I expect for an expensive bag.

Not what I expected from Floto, but you should still purchase something else from them!
Crisp, shiny (not at all "classy") looking/feeling leather. The bag has no structure so it collapses when/while you try to pack it/leave it open while empty/packing it. Floto makes other great styles (check out the Roma line of bags), this one/line just misses the mark entirely.

Mostly very good quality, unique old fashioned design-leather is not finished where the metal & leather come together (folded down on sides)..but I'll live with it. For this price it should be perfect..

Great bag except for the smell
I researched leather luggage quite extensively before ending up with this Floto bag. I like the size, layout, bottom section for shoes, nice cloth lining, the wide opening, the overall workmanship, and the "look" is pretty unique. The leather appears to be of high quality - note: it is not the soft and supple type like deerskin but instead closer to the leather on my horse saddle - but I knew that and that is what I wanted. The hardware/zippers look to be of average quality (I would have preferred upgrades with all hardware because the leather will certainly take lots of use and abuse but I'm not sure the hardware/zippers will). Having said that, I remind myself that I'm not purchasing a $1,000-2,000 bag, so for the price the overall quality is very good; all in all it is a great value. However, the big negative is the smell. Several reviews of other Floto products mention this so I know it is not unique to my bag; without those other similar comments I would have thought that a cat "marked" my bag as its territory. Seriously, it smells like cat urine. I know that in some countries they use urine as a leather treatment (for example, in Morocco some of the camel leather bags are treated with camel urine), but I would doubt that Floto uses urine (just some chemical that smells like urine).Having read those other reviews I was prepared for the smell, but I really wasn't prepared for how persistent the smell is. I first let it air outside for a couple days (didn't do much to abate the smell), then I tried saddle soap and Lexol conditioner (didn't do much either). I then tried to mask the smell by spraying the cloth interior with my strongest cologne (only helped for a few days then the cologne wore off and the smell again became apparent). I'm next going to try white vinegar (which chemically will neutralize some basis/acidic chemicals), then baking soda and as a last resort dryer sheets in a sealed bag.Why not return it you ask? Well, it is simply that the bag otherwise is exactly what I was looking for, and for the price it is a great value that is hard to beat. Since not all the reviews mentioned such an offensive smell I can only surmise that I got a particularly well-treated bag - one in which they must have used a lot of the one particular chemical. I must admit I'm a bit surprised by this smell issue. I own lots and lots of leather products, from sofas to briefcases, from saddles to work gloves and I know what leather smells like, and I've never smelled anything like this. But like I said, it's a pretty damn good bag so I'm doing my best to overcome this one drawback. I would have given it 5 stars had it not been for the smell issue.
