You would need a driven cog at each end of the chain, rotating in opposite direction at appropriate times. Seems over the top for comlexity, and there are probably commercial products designed for the job. I just pull mine..

Q: can the chain be shorter than the drop of the Roman blind eg 100cm for 115 roman blind

The chain can be any length, please ignore the other answer. We have a blind with a 1020mm drop and chain of 500mm drop. This is so we have space to put an automated motor for controlling the blinds. There are many reason this could be required, such as to stop children reaching the chain.

It’s very easy to fit. The end of the roller blind does open to allow a new chain to be fitted in place of a broken chain. It doesn’t usually require tools, just realising the end cap. You can buy small connectors to fix a broken chain, but this continuous loop chain is good value and simple to fit.
