I absolutely love black licorice. Being American, unfortunately, quality black licorice is non-existent. Any time I travel to Europe, I try to load up on as much as I can to bring back home (often trying to catch a layover in Amsterdam) hoping it will not harden before my next trip. Finding Lakrids by Bulow is a godsend. I just received it today and had to sample one. Delicious! Just what I look for in black licorice. This is truly a gourmet candy, as I can taste the quality of the ingredients, with the slightly cooling, slightly sweet, slightly bitter, herbal tingle that pleasantly coats the throat and reminds me of being warm and cozy on a harsh winter day or getting a loving hug from grandma wishing sweet dreams before falling asleep. Not that I am Gluten intolerant or vegan, but I am impressed with the soft gel-like consistency which the food texture monitor in my brain just loves (all without gelatin)! Overall, this has been added to my subscribe and save, and to me, the price is well worth it. I will be enjoying one after dinner from now on. My partner, who does not like black licorice also enjoyed the natural clean taste and is also excited to make this treat an after-dinner indulgence.

I have tried a litany of licorice products in search of one that is neither so salty it overpowers the licorice flavor, nor too mildly salty as to not even be satisfying. I believe this product has found the perfect balance between the two. If you are unfamiliar with Dutch salty licorice, you might be a little put off by this at first, so I recommend 'warming up' to the taste of salty licorice with other products like the Katjes herrings with only a slight saltiness. Once you've acquired the taste, then you can try these with a more discerning palate. I submit that you'll not regret spending the time to do so. If you're already a fan of Dutch licorice, buy these immediately and I would be surprised if they don't become your favorite right away. I couldn't stand Dutch licorice the first time I tried it (but the first one I tried was a double salt variety). I have since come to enjoy them very much. Gustaf's double salt really hits the spot if you want an intense punch of salt without much licorice flavor, and the Katjes herrings are on the other side with just enough salt to notice. These Lakrids have hit the spot precisely in the middle, and it's fantastic. Besides all this, the texture is very nice. Some might not like it, but it is sort of a breakaway / plastic feel, except far superior to something like Twizzlers. With those, you're actually eating plastic. With these, it's real licorice and you can tell. My main gripe with most salty licorice is that you can't even taste any licorice flavor, but with these Lakrids, it comes through loud and... savory.

I recently gifted my grandmother a jar of Lakrids black licorice in two flavors, salty and sweet. While the salty version was a bit too intense for her taste, and nearly turned her stomach, but she absolutely loved the sweet variety! It quickly became a favorite, so much so that I purchased a second jar to replace the salty one. I can confidently say that Lakrids is definitely worth the price. I originally found this brand in a boutique, and I’m thrilled to now be able to conveniently order it whenever I want. I'll definitely be reordering in the future, highly recommend!

When I first opened the can I was at first surprised that there was no safety seal...maybe because it's an overseas product originally. I'm not sure. The other version of this company's product had a seal, but it was loose. The smell from the can was not immediately appealing, perhaps from the heat of sitting in a box on my front porch for a while. After it aired out and I threw caution to the wind to try the unsealed package I was unpleasantly surprised at the taste. It says sweet right on the can, but the taste is actually slightly bitter and slightly salty. Perhaps again that may be a difference in taste from overseas to America (land of sugar and obesity). I did become accustomed to the taste and are the entire container in 2-3 days, however this is not a product I'd buy again. Thus far my favorite is Panda All Natural Licorice Chews and you can get a lot more for your money right here on Amazon. The company sells them in a 4 pack (800g total) for $16.84. So even if I felt like acclimating my taste buds to this variety there is a tastier and less expensive option available. If you don't like sweet, but also don't want a straight-up salted liquorice then this may actually be a great option for you. Afterall, it is not a bad product, just a different product from what I'm accustomed to. Except for the lack of a safety seal on the container, and the floppy loose one on the coffee chocolate variety that I also purchased. That's just a poor quality control situation.

If you do not know real licorice, do not buy. This is not a black twizzler. These come in a variety, the #2 is labeled as salty. The flavor was really good but not salty enough for my taste. Price was high, but it is billed as a premium experience.

Beautifully fresh texture and vibrant flavor. Perfect amount of sweetness. I am so pleased with this product. I am considering trying some of the other flavors. The bonus for me is that it is gluten-free. I was looking for that because I have a gluten intolerance. I especially enjoy a couple of these candies right before I brush my teeth and get ready for my nighttime routine. I don’t indulge in a lot of candy typically but I was craving licorice and I am so grateful that I found this company. If you like, licorice, I highly suggest these.

Very delicious and helps me if I’m feeling homesick. Salty liquorice is so comforting. It’s taken years but finally the lightbulb went on and my other person ‘gets’ it now and really likes it. It’s not as salty as some, but it’s still pretty good. Good entry level stuff for newbies who need to gradually work up to the stronger flavours.
