Zak George's Guide to a Well-Behaved Dog: Proven Solutions to the Most Common Training Problems for All Ages, Breeds, and Mixes

Use along with YouTube
This book is a great companion to Zak's YouTube Channel. I have a 11 week old golden retriever that I have taught to leave it, lay down, paw/touch, look at me, and walk on a leash all using the videos! I was still having a lot of problems with her separation anxiety, food stealing (or attempting to), and constant chewing and biting. I got Zak's book to help guide me in these areas because even though she's a puppy, I didn't want to let bad habits go unchecked. There is a lot of advice and helpful information on any specific problem or concern you could have. If you love positive, treat and reward based training, this book is for you.

Excellent training techniques and discussion
We've had our 10-month GSD just a month. When he first came to us, he would leap onto the furniture, counter surf, steal items around the house (as a game), be into our laps every time we sat down. It was a bit chaotic trying to keep him 4 feet away when we are dressing or handling items we need to use. He would have his face right into it, snatch an item and run. It is a game to him. I've been using this book for a few days and watching the videos, and I've already seen so much improvement in communication with my dog. He will now wait at the door until invited to pass through, sit an appropriate distance away from us when we are doing things. We can point and place him where we want him to sit. He waits beside his dish when we are eating meals. We've put the sit, down, stay, let go, and leave it into practice in the house. Now we are ready to practice it outside. Haven't tried the "no pull" and other leash training yet, but we'll get to it. I am so impressed by my dog's intelligence and happy disposition, and am also so impressed by Zak George's understand of what makes sense to a dog.

Read if you want a great relationship with your dog.
Zak George is an amazing trainer. When I was preparing to get my bernedoodle puppy a year and a half ago, I read Zak's first book, Dog Training Revolution. Throughout the last 18 months, I've used Zak's book and youtube videos to help me stay positive and stay patient while training my Indy. (Yes the name was inspired by Bree's dog Indy) Now 18 months later, I still use Zak's tools to guide me when working with my dog, that's why I bought Zak George's Guide to a Well-Behaved Dog. Zak teaches you how to create a bond with your dog while training instead of using inhumane tools like shock or prong collars. I appreciate that he teaches luring into a trick at first instead of forcing your dog into a position, it really taught my dog that it's his choice to follow my words, but doing so gets him a reward. I appreciate that this book is a great guide whether you have a puppy or an older dog because the beginning stages of learning no longer apply to me, but I still like to keep up with training and learning to communicate with my dog.

Solid Advice & Tips; Having Fun With Your BEST Friend
I bought the Kindle edition and the Audible edition, narrated by the author. I highly recommend purchasing both at the same time. The writing is crisp, especially once you reach part II, The Issues. The author really shines as a trainer, by breaking down the training into progressive steps that build on the lessons previously learned by your best pal.I also appreciate how well the lessons segway into his free youTube training videos, making the methods so much easier to integrate into your routine. While I am not totally sold on Zak George’s philosophical approach, I am much more willing to give him the benefit of the doubt now, than I was after reading the first book in the series.NOTE: Although I greatly appreciate his free youTube videos, I do find his constantly selling products during the discussion to be annoying and unwelcome. Monetizing the videos is fine, but, geez, dude, insert a separating mechanism so the lines between the two points are not blurred.BOTTOM LINESolid four stars out of five, especially if reading the book while listening to the Audible edition.

Zak George SELLS OUT to Pee Pad Company
I was disappointed to see Zak George in an ad promoting a certain brand of pee pads, or any pee pads for that matter. Find a book that helps you train your dog to go outside from the start using a proper sized crate and routine. Don't be stuck with the mess and cost of pee pads. Also, the positive only training is not good. Dogs, like children, have to learn that doing the wrong thing also has consequences. Mostly I think Zak George has sold himself out with the pee pad endorsement. I found a book written by someone with DECADES of dog raising and RESPECT TRAINING experience so that I have a puppy/dog who listens to us and behaves well. And NOT just to get a treat.

A must-read for all dog lovers!
I have just gotten a new puppy and needed to refresh my skills in raising a fur child (my oldest one is 9). I read countless articles and watched multiple videos, but I couldn’t be happier that I came across this book! First of all, it promotes positive, ethical methods instead of dominance methods which are obsolete and of which I personally strongly disapprove from a purely moral point of view. It’s written in a clear, accessible manner which not only gives you tools for raising a well-behaved dog but helps you understand the psychology behind certain issues and how to better address them. It’s basically a step-by-step training guide which will teach you how to teach your dog everything starting with such basic commands like sit and stay to more complicated stuff, such as desensitizing your pup to certain fears such as fireworks, other dogs and people, and - what’s most important - help you create a strong bond with your dog for the rest of your lives together. A must-read for all dog lovers!

Don't leave your book out where your labs will find it!
Told my husband to put the book away....I'm sure the book is great, our labs thought different. Didn't have time to get to read it.

A MUST HAVE!
This book is amazing, full of useful tips and made even better when used along with Zak’s many videos on YouTube. I now have both books and couldn’t recommend them highly enough. I’ve even bought copies of both to give to family/ friends when they get new dogs. I hope he writes more as I’ll definitely be getting them. I would highly recommend his YouTube and social media too.

Dumble's Bible!
So happy we bought this! Anyone with a pup who just won't settle and is going through the adolescent stage needs this! Dumble is much better behaved since learning fetch and slowly teaching him how to settle himself! And the difference on the lead even after a week is fab! Zak George is right if it's not working it's because you've skipped too far ahead and need to strip it right back!!

My puppy is now a gooder boy
Having recently adopted a puppy, I wanted to make sure I was able to bring him up with good manners and understand why he behaves the way that he does when he is being a bit naughty! It’s a great book and gives a bit more detail than some of his YouTube content, overall Zak brings home the message that it’s on you to proactively sort out your dog’s behaviour and gives some great solutions. Specifically, chapters on chewing and paying attention in distracting situations really helped me.
