Great Ideas, But Not “Classroom Ready”
I was looking for something to give me easy to implement number talks in my classroom and chose this one because it advertised 1,000 interactive activities and strategies along with being classroom ready. There are a great variety of number talks and I like how they are broken down by grade level, with the standards available for each grade, however I don’t feel that they are classroom ready. This book would be more useable with access to a digital version of the number talks. There are great visuals, that I can’t easily display for my students. I wish there was an easier way to use this book with my class.

Talking Math for Teachers or Parents
One of the best ways for a K-2 teacher or parent to understand if a child really comprehends mathematics concepts is with number talks. Number Talks are when the child articulates how they understand math concepts and numerical relationships, not memorized facts. I would dread quizzing my child on the “math facts,” but a quick number talk makes the facts relevant and helped me see where real misunderstandings may be, even when my child appeared to be able to call out the facts. And the questions are right there to guide me (photo) so we can both go deeper into number meanings. With no paper or pencil needed, these number talks can be used most anyplace to help math come alive (photo). I have used them in the car or grocery store! I highly recommend this book – it is excellent for teachers, but parents shouldn’t overlook it.

Love using this book
My best friend is a new elementary school teacher and I bought this book for her because she was concerned about teaching number skills in her 2nd grade class. She loves this book and says it has been a total lifesaver! It gives you tons of exercises that you can photocopy right out of the book, plus tricks and tips for how to best utilize them in class. The book is oriented toward students' fluency based on common core standards, which is super useful if you're teaching in a public school. This is a great supplement for your standard mathematics curriculum for kindergarten through 2nd grades.

1000 of ways to learn math for kindergarten through second grade.
This is a great book for teachers teaching Kindergarten through 2nd grade. There are 1000 interactive activities and strategies. The book is black and white, very easy to understand and duplicate for the needs in the classroom. Graphics used will make it fun for students while learning. They are up-to-date and relevant for today’s classroom. If there was a very intelligent kindergartener or first grader, the second grade curriculum could be used. There are 21 chapters for kindergarten, 30 for 1st grade and 43 for 2nd grade. These activities could also be used for extra credit or incorporated in games at free time or rainy day schedule.

Great ideas from this book
This is a great book to get those number talks started. Great ideas, great pacing of the concepts and strategies. This book complements the Common Core mathematical practice number 2. It is a great way to help students understand conceptual understanding. This is so much better than any time worksheet.

Disappointing
I really like the discussion prompts in this book. I took off 2 stars though because you cannot adequately copy the prompts, pictures, or visuals they provide. I had though that the book would have at least came with a link and password so that you could download the great visuals and resources. Too difficult to use when I need to create all my own materials to go along with the number talks.

Good start
Not exactly what I was hoping for, but will be a good start. I was looking for something a little more abstract to promote higher level thinking.

Great lessons but would be better with a CD
This book is great for getting ideas on different number sense strategies to teach. There are lots of pages that require you to photocopy, which is time consuming. The book is also not a standard paper size so there is lots of wasted space when copying. I'd give this book 5 stars if it had come with a CD or links to a website with the pictures to be projected onto a screen from a computer so I didn't have to waste time scanning some of the images.

Great math discussions!
Used in grade 2 virtual learning setting and it has helped students to understand the “why” of what they’re doing and how they’re doing it. Breaks concepts down, easy to follow, excellent strategy assortment! Lots of light bulbs turning on in our class! Excellent when used in mini math meets. Concepts in the book are easy to differentiate for students if you need more or less.
