Always useful
Makes a fire hot enough to gently boil water when used with a folding sterno stove. Amazon's online coupon let me get this for far less than my local grocery store. When the gel burns down to a point where it has trouble staying lit, stir it with a small stick and try again. When it burns too low to stay lit, scoop the remaining gel into a spare sterno can. Don't use any other type of can; they are made to take the heat. Mix and light, or you can add a couple of tablespoons of rubbing alcohol, stir well and allow to sit for a few minutes. Light it (It might take a few times to keep it lit), and you will have enough heat to make hot soup or hot water for cocoa or coffee.

Perfect for a Windy Picnic at the Pumpkin Farm
We had a picnic with our daughter's karate school at the local pumpkin farm. It ended up being an extremely frigid, windy day and everyone tried cuddling near the fire pit. We brought sweet and sour meatballs (already heated) and kept them warm for hours with these sterno cans. We only used 2 cans and they lasted the entire afternoon. The event was 11am-3pm. We arrived early, placed the meatballs over the heat immediately and we left late. I used a large aluminum tray and had one can under each side. I also doubled the aluminum tray to ensure the meatballs wouldn't burn. After the meatballs were all gone, we let another family use the bottom tray to keep their food warm because the sterno cans were still going. The cans did not burn out, we had to put the lids on to put them out when we left. I'm purchasing these again for this year's event.

Nice prepper fuel
I was looking for a compact fuel for our 72 hour emergency kits. Sterno fits the bill. It's neat and tidy. It comes in it's own compact can. Some people have complained that the lid pops off. I found that the lids were secure, but think they could easily be taped over if you were worried about that. These are a nice addition for any prepper who wants something easy and lightweight to carry.

Does boil water
Bought this to use in a Sterno Inferno stove kit. Note that what you will get is NOT 7 oz. cans, but ~6 oz. cans (5.99 oz., per the can). Sterno no longer makes the 7 oz. cans.Using this in the Inferno stove, it took about 7.5 minutes to boil 1 cup (8 oz.) of water, and about 12.5 minutes to boil 2 cups (16 oz.) of water with a new Sterno can (the 5.99 oz. you will actually get from this product listing). This is a bit longer than I’ve seen on YouTube videos (e.g., an Iridium 242 YouTube video review of the Inferno stove). I believe the stove was designed for 7 oz. sterno cans (2.25” tall on the web), but only the ~6 oz. cans (measured @ ~1.8” tall) are available now. So I either have to accept the slightly longer boil times, or think about making a heat-resistant spacer.Note that above I state that I boiled water with this product. I did, and more than once. Others have as well. I know that this contradicts a popular 1-star review on this product. I do not know the source of what is stated as fact in that review. Combustion of the gel in this product generates sufficient heat to boil water. It may not do so as quickly as a kitchen stove, but it does get the job done.

Still the best, beats Jetboil Flash, MSR Reactor, etc at something as simple as cooking a fresh-caught trout
I still use Sterno. Beats all these wiz-bang stoves that constantly have problems and can't gently cook a fresh-caught rainbow trout. They boil water, but they suck at everything else. Sterno cans with sterno stove is disaster proof, cheap, silent, and easy to use when you're exhausted from hiking.

GOOD FOR MANY USES!
💡Ive used these to boil water for survival dinner and I've used these to warm up in my storage unit during visits there. They are good to have around.✅

CONVENIENT AND CLEAN
I remember using these as a teenager working in a hotel to keep trays of food warm for banquets. They burn for hours and are very clean burning, even for indoor use. I had never thought of using them for cooking in a campsite or on the trail until I ran across the outdoor hiking stove. Using these to warm up a can of soup or for boiling water to rehydrate a Mountain House meal is a lot neater and cleaner than using a campfire. For a hiking trip, they are perfect because you just have to carry a couple cans of fuel for several days of hot meals on the go.
