Great watch dog
This works exactly as described. We love the ease of using the on line app to keep an eye on things.

Good for mindful RV'ers, though get the EMS unit instead if you are not mindful at all times
It works as it should and the app is pretty good. It shows you real time stats of the wattage, amps and accumulated kwh power usage. Serious RV'ers recommend only using an EMS system for complete protection in all circumstances. I would say this non ems surge protector is fine as long as you check the outlet yourself every single time before pluggin in the RV connector. This surge protector will tell you if the outlet is working correctly if you just plug it in first, then you plug in the RV last once everything checks out.If you want to save some money and you are diligent about checking the outlet every single time before connecting the rv plug, then I recommend this surge protector. If you don't want to worry about anything and not have to think about this stuff, you will need the EMS surge protector which is roughly twice as expensive.

Does so much more than a simple surge suppresor
For storage my 50amp coach has a 30amp line (With a long 10 gage wire). It's also at the end of a long power company supply grid with both frequent brown outs and wind related shutdowns. So the thing is, any electric equipment hooked to the 120v shore power is subject to the stress of this less than reliable supply. This is a very cost effective power manager in that it will intelligently shut off and resume while in remote unattended use. It's bluetooth capabilities gives a good amp readout as you turn appliances of and on and accumulates your KW use till you reset it manually. It's near impossible to give a certain return on investment, that said anything that will ad lifespan to the RV's components is going to be well worth it. An added feature is the included sacrificial surge suppressor, not only does it notify when its been fried, its also user replaceable that alone is a deal maker over other devices.Installation was a simple plug in line (In my case several pig tails used for both step up and down from a 30amp Hughes auto former). Most installations, Pedestal - Watchdog - Coach you can expect a 1 volt loss per 13 foot of cord. I run a simple indoor volt meter and its about 2 volts lower in readout than the bluetooth app reports.Installations adding the auto former inline, you're advised to go Pedestal- Auto Former-Watchdog-Coach. This will allow the use of the shore power with the added benefit of some extra Volts when the shore power is under strain (More or less any summer day).I had no issue using this as stated with 30 amp supply with the 50 amp Watchdog. The second 120v on the plug simply reads 0V as it should.

Best option for built-in RV surge protection
I was able to find only a couple options for built-in surge protection, Hughes was recommended, and when I looked at the website the company noted that they stand behind the product and it has a replaceable surge models. Some reviews of other built-in RV surge protectors on Amazon noted occasional problems and failures which required full replacement at over $200 for the protector.Installation was straight forward with directions clearly provided. The most difficult part of installation is manipulating the heavy main power entrance cable to splice in the surge protector. In my case the cable came in from the outside plug behind two covers which were easily accessible (photos above). The cable came in from the top (first photo) then down to the compartment below (second photo) before going below the trailer and routed to the power converter.I spliced the surge protector in the bottom compartment and moved the cable in the top compartment back toward the rear for better cable routing. The individual cables are quite thick and stiff, so it took some work to get all connected into the protector. However once installed, the protector easily secured to the back wall with the included brackets. Start up was easily completed with the app (50 amp service through a 30 amp power adapter to a 110V outlet for battery charging). The protector performed flawlessly, following the directions to connect the iPhone app to the adapter went smoothly. The app provides power status and monitoring, it's an easy way to ensure power is within the rated supply and monitor power usage from RV devices.Available in several options including plug in, hardwired, 30A / 50A and with or without emergency power off. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
