Hoods are one of those things that you should definitely stick to the manufacturer.

I bought this hood rather than paying for the more expensive Canon version and am glad I did. The plastic is sturdy and I haven't had any problems with it. This is even after it's been getting knocked around in my camera bag.

This hood does not even lock in. Loose and moves while on the camera. 100% ineffective
