It’s ok
I was hoping for some more technical depth from this for general art material making. Instead it is more of a set of examples of how this particular artist has used some organic materials in their art. It’s ok.

Wasn’t what I thought
I thought it would give a lot more insight on making and using organic plants, teas etc for use in water color painting. I also bought a copy for 14 yr old granddaughter, who’s very artistic, and it’s over her head. Definitely an adult book.

I found a new perspective and great tips for helping your brain thinking different ways and view paintings and projects in a new light

This is a marvelous book.
This book is not your usual painting reference. It is filled with ideas you might not have tried...working with ink and pen, watercolors, pourable acrylic paint, but in an approachable, successful manner. The examples and instructions are short so a project can be done in an afternoon or less.

This book is gorgeous!
I've been a fan of Carne Griffiths work for a while now, and am very excited to get a glimpse into his process. This book has lots of pictures of both process shots and his finished paintings, with descriptions of how he applies these mediums, and step by step instructions for several projects if you want to follow along. This book is worth it for the pictures alone, however I've only had it one day, and have already utilized some of the techniques for a figure drawing with tea and ink. Love it and look forward to diving in further!

Interesting and unusual
Gave this book to a fellow artist friend who loves tea. We both enjoyed looking through it. Wide range of projects, great visual aids to see what is being done.

Awesome
Really fun, book. My older and younger kids really enjoy finding materials outdoors to use.

Bought as a joke, turned into serious inspiration!
I bought this for my other half as a joke present. Lockdown had seen her start painting again and she was forever talking about using unusual materials -- this seemed like a fun present for Christmas as a loving jibe. However (much to my delight!), it turned into serious inspiration! Within a few days, she was playing with observing tannin levels in coffees, red wines and tea, mixing green tea with alcohol and experiment with a wide range of different materials and techniques. While they weren't all explicitly from the book, the inspiration certainly was. We've since spent significant time looking at the author's own artwork and both imagine buying some of it to hang in our house. This is one of those lovely books that genuinely surprises you. It has some wonderful ideas, fantastic artwork and has been written from a place of knowledge and passion.

Beautiful. Just beautiful.
Where to start? Never before have I been so excited for a book to arrive. The anticipation! I've been a huge fan of Carne Griffiths and his work for a number of years now. It was love at first sight to be honest. The moment I saw two of his pieces; The Mystery and Fly, I've been hooked. Totally, utterly hooked. So when I pre-ordered The Organic Painter I just beamed. I knew it was going to be a wait but the wait would be worth it. It reminded me of Christmas Eve as a child, going to bed knowing full well you weren't going to sleep because you thought you might see the big red man with the beard delivering presents for the family! The book itself is nothing short of stunning. The step by step guides are fantastic and help you have a different mindset with your own work. The blank piece of paper as a starting point is often the hardest step to overcome as a painter and Carne's message throughout is not to get bogged down with overthinking everything. Be free. Free yourself from the perfectionist thought process and just embrace a different approach where it's totally ok to pour tea, coffee or whatever your tipple is and embrace the results. The book is a breathtaking example of an artist who is totally relaxed and at one with himself about sharing his tips, his methods and his processes. It's definitely changed my perception of 'the process' of art and the illustrations throughout the book have made me fall further in love with Carne's work as an artist. I urge you to pick up a copy of 'The Organic Painter' - and see the results.Stunning. Thank you.

One trick pony
I have returned this book. It's ok to flick through but is very much a one trick pony. Only one of the techniques was unusual, that's the use of a candle flame. I suspect if I attempt that, things will not end well.Every single example depends on using a very very similar style to the author. Working on watercolour paper, using a swirly feminie gentle style, then working on top when dry.It includes painting with coffee, dropping salt, etc which are all very common art class staples. I doubt they will be new and exciting techniques for many artists. The cover is wonderfully tactile, and sadly that's the best I have to say.Obviously everyone is differ, and artists with a lighter style than mine might find it useful.
