Mediocre Product
The biggest problem with this item is that the straw allows too much leaf through. I have a similar cup made by a different manufacturer and do not have any problems with the filtering of leaves. After experimenting with various methods of preparation and types of yerba mate I have found a way to lessen the amount of leaf getting through the straw. First, I use a "suave" type of yerba mate which has a higher percentage of stems in it. I fill the upper container approximately half-full of yerba mate. I then prepare it as if using a real gourd. I place my hand over the top, turn it upsidedown, and shake it hard for several seconds. This allows much of the dust to fall out onto your hand. Before inserting the straw into the yerba mate I pour a small amount of tepid water onto the yerba mate and allow it to be absorbed to dampen the yerba mate. I then place my thumb over the end of the straw and insert the filter end into the yerba mate and seal the lid. This method greatly reduces the amount of leaf that will get through but its not 100%. This item works OK but there are other options that require less preparation. I will be using my YerbaCup most of the time instead of this product.

Other reviews not true IMO.
I own 3 of these. They work well. Even if you take off the second filter you never get more than one occasional mate grain through the straw. I like this one better than others because it fits in my cars cup holder and has a wide open top for easy cleaning. I've had mine for 2-3 years now with no problems. Looking for more. I only gave 4 stars because I paid less than half of what they're asking here.

Definately a new way to drink mate!!
I bought 2 of these Mate-a-Punto's and they are by far the worst travel thermoses ever. The water does not come up fast enough to fill the mate itself and and holes in the bottom of the bombilla are rather large so you end up with a mouth full of yerba. In the end, you are not drinking mate but rather eating it and it's awfull.A good traveler is one called 'Todo en uno'. I haven't found one yet on Amazon but I still have hope of finding another one of these uits that actually works.
