Pointy hard plastic, not durable and potentially dangerous - worth the price but order with caution
The plastic on this is hard and the points on the dispensing end are very..... pointy. That said it worked well for bolusing my pygmy goats (the copper boluses are human gel-cap size), but I had someone do it who has a lot of experience bolusing calves. I was honestly still worried. It worked perfectly both times, but in the hands of someone less experienced I'd be concerned about the animal's throat, just because it's so sharp.I'd say it's worth the price, but be aware there's a risk of injuring your pet's throat because it's hard, sharp plastic. If your pet gave it a good bite I doubt you'd be able to use the pill gun again - it's much thinner plastic than, for example, a typical 3cc syringe. And it doesn't look as long or as nice quality as in the pictures. It'll do the job if you know what you're doing, but I'd recommend something softer if you're not confident about how far to insert it, or something sturdier it you intend to use it often. Definitely not an ideal product, but serviceable in the right hands. Order with caution, and use with caution.

This product is definitely worth a try.
This pill dispenser works well for my cat, who hates medicine and is highly skilled at spitting it out, foaming at the mouth, and causing me a great deal of frustration. The only downside I see at the moment is that the plastic is a bit flimsy and I can imagine it will need to be replaced down the line if the pill starts to fall out of the holder. I'm not sure this is avoidable though, due to the design of the pill gun (the tips have to have some flexibility to open up and allow the pill to pass through). I like that this dispenser can easily be used with tablets wrapped in cheese or a "pill masker" substance for pets to further reduce the bitter experience for my treasured fur friends.

New design is terrible and NOT as pictured here! Very disappointing.
I purchased two of these several months apart. The first one arrived as pictured and is easy to use. I think my cat prefers the pill shooter with a soft tip but for everyday use I preferred this one as it was easier to use and much easier to clean than the green one available for sale on Amazon. I had no problem with pills of different sizes in this one. After my cat had surgery this month, I ordered another one of these. It is much different and NOT as pictured on this page! The prongs of the dispenser are too skinny and far apart - it would be difficult to hold small pills for a cat and would definitely be uncomfortable to put in a cat's mouth! I have returned it for defectiveness. The seller has confirmed that the manufacturer changed the design - do not waste your money on this!!! I'll be trying a third design from a different seller.

Life saving.
I dont usually have time to leave reviews for products but as I was lying here I thought even the 2 Vets office I went to didn't do much to help me find a product to dispense a medication to my cat.My cat was foaming at the mouth with liquid medication, running through the house drooling all over the ground, while I'm left in pain from all the scratches she left on me.Giving her pills was a nightmare too:1) she learned of the pill pockets2) she tasted it in her mashed up food3) and I took 3 people to throw a pill down her throat and of course fail. She was having controllable, but liquified diarrhea for nearly 9 months, and one of the options was to give her pills or full thickness biopsy.I decided to research my own pill dispenser.I initially found the other higher rated dispensers, but the most negative reviews warned people the silicone or rubber end would shoot off in the cats mouth along with the medication, resulting in more problems, and higher vet bills. So I decided to go with this one.Initially I was deterred from comments like"Tampon size" or "huge for my cats mouth". But there were no incidences of things breaking off into her mouth. So all said and done, I have been able to administer my cat prednisone 3 times a day for 5 days, twice a day for 5 days and now I'm on day 3 of once daily. Plus probiotic pill every day in addition to prednisone. The size and length were actually perfect for my 9 lb, domestic short haired cat. It's been successful, something I never would have imagined myself giving her meds on my own, without a blanket. From 3 people holding her down with a blanket, and a million scratches and a huge cleanup, to 1 person, no blanket and no scratches.

My dog is a super hard dog to give meds to so I thought ...
My dog is a super hard dog to give meds to so I thought buying this would help, since sometimes giving him by hand doesn't work all the time, and he just spits it out. He's a medium size dog and he has a kinda small mouth and even when I put it on the side of this mouth he still chokes on it or just spits it out. his pills are kinda small so sometimes it falls out so I have to hold it a certain way to keep it all in. Right now I'm just doing it by hand cause it's just easier for me since I've been doing it this way for months. Oh yeah and sometimes when I do get it all in it kinda gets stuck, I guess mixed with the saliva and what not it gets stuck even if I push it all the way.

This thing needs instructions!
I got this device in a plain plastic bag. It definitely needs more instructions for a dummy like me! What are the two twirley do hickey's for, and then you have a washer type thing on there? Is there some adjustment for the grabber tongs at the end? Do you put the pill in the tong end or at the top of the barrel? How far do you slide the twirley do hickeys down the barrel? So far, this isn't working that great for my small dog, maybe because I do not know how to use it.

Works as intended. I wish the tip were softer, but the prongs retain large pills well. Not for small pills and very sm. dogs.
Works for larger pills, not good for small pills. The prongs are not very flexible like silicone or rubber, and the pointed tips of the prongs curve almost 90 degrees inward, so pushing a pill into retention position may be difficult and require a bit of manipulation. But, for the larger pills the device holds them well enough that adding a bit of soft dog food, peanut butter, process cheese or similar food on the tip to aid in coating and lubricating the tip with pill works well and allows for quick and efficient insertion and deposit into the upper throat. For very small dogs, this may not be recommended, but it does what it claims.
