What a Let Down
I had an unfortunate experience with this. After reading all the reviews and finding this toy on the top toy list of 2011, I was convinced this would be a great buy for my four children. I bought four and thought you can't beat the price. Well, we have not been able to get the software to work on our Macs or are Windows operating systems. 90% of what the toy does depends on being able to download info from the computer onto the toy. My kids were all excited to get these on Christmas day and kept wanting to 'battle' each other and play online. This was supposed to be able to keep them busy for hours. What a let down for them and for me and my husband who spent a week trying to get these toys to work. Now we have to pay shipping to return four HUGE BOXES.

I feel scammed - we bought this for my son's birthday but he can't play any of the games because they have stopped supporting this product line. Website says: Online service and support for the Mechatars.com website was discontinued on June 30th, 2013 This means that you will no longer be able to access the website or its associated games or accounts after this date.If you have further questions about your account or the shutdown of these services, please contact customer support at [email protected]!

best new toy there is for 6 plus
with all the toys that under deliver out there this one is more than you could ever expect. TYhe more you play the more "doors' open up for new creative challenges and fun. So cool and way to many things to identify but this is such a cool toy. Be warned there is a smal learning curve to master remote control.

not the toy for us
We were not looking for a time intensive toy and did not want to link up a lot via computer. We thought it would be a fun remote controlled "bot" type toy. It doesn't work well on our tile floor and moves awkwardly (and sometimes can't get itself rolling). The batteries run out very quickly. It's also a lot to ask little kids to remember to turn off the remote and the mechatar itself every time, although certainly in an ideal world they would. My boys are 5 and 7. The remote controlled goldfish and helicopter are getting a lot more use. I see the other positive reviews but in our house this is a thumbs down.

Great Product
I am tech dad and bought Kodar and Wrexx for my son. Bottom line: great product.Mechatars are a combination of a robot toy and of an online game. The robot can battle other robots and play missions, and apparently uses RF for the remote controller, which is better than IR found in other toy robots. The robots only turn in one direction, but they're fast and fun to drive, and built strong. The battles have each robot using three weapons, each stronger than one of the other two, more Pokemon than Rock Paper Scissors. The most interesting aspect of the toy is that you can download different weapons and mission from the online game, which I haven't seen in any other toy.The online game is very well done. You have to download a Unity plug in but that's done automatically and once you're setup, the game has rich graphics and animations. And it's free to play. You can play the same robot battles in the game with added animations, replay robot battles, and do online missions. Most interestingly, the missions you complete on the robot give you points in the online game, which encourages you to play more with the robot. My son is leveling up faster than me because he keeps playing robot missions, and this the longest I've seen him play with any toy. As long as the company keeps releasing new missions and battle weapons, I think my son will keep playing with the toy, and that's great value for the $40 price. Highly recommend.

Long lasting play
I was a bit confused about this toy at first, but it made more sense after watching their YouTube videos. Basically, it is a battling RC vehicle that can battle offline (if your kid and his friend both have one) and it can also go online and battle in the "Mechaverse". So it is two toys for the price of one, a physical battling remote-control vehicle and an online battle game. I got it as a gift for my friend's son and he really loves it. He has been playing with it for the past three weeks which apparently is longer than he has ever played with a new toy.
