My Visit to the Zoo (Trophy Picture Books (Paperback))

I love this book! I was looking for one to give to my grandsons, ages 5 & 8, to go along with the zoo pass I am giving them as a gift. This is perfect! It talks about many different zoo animals, giving facts about them and their habitats without being dry and boring. Just be aware that the opening lines are about how sad the child and animals were at zoos with animals in small cages. This is a book about zoo animals in their natural habitats. There's just a small paragraph or two per page, so it will be easy for the 8-year old to read to his brother. The illustrations are beautiful. I have a degree in early childhood education and have always loved children's books. This is an excellent one.

Aliki is one of the best writers for children. She writes in a clear and easy style at the same time never talking down to her young audience. The illustrations are realistic, as I believe they should be in a non-fiction book on a scientific subject. My son has several of her books and they have inspired him to visit the zoo, the museum, and the aquarium, and have kept these places alive in his mind between visits.

brilliant colors and illustrations completed the story of what one can look forward to when going to a modern zoo. Facts about animals were embedded within without being dry and animal conservation was included without being preachy.

Love this book the pictures are great and so is the story. The children are just going to love it too when I read it to them when we study animals.

I gave this book as a gift to a student I work with at school. She absolutely loved it! It has so many things to keep a young reader busy. There's lots of colorful art work!
